AZ Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon Here I Come

I can not believe I will be running my 10th  marathon in just 5 short days! Time flies!

So remember when I tried out for the Westin Concierge back in August?  Well obviously I didn’t get the job, but I got something so much better. The day they announced the winner was the same day we went and picked up RJ. Pretty amazing timing right? Either way, I loved the experience and I wouldn’t take it back for anything! All the folks that I got a chance to meet with Westin were amazing!!! I really fell in love with the company and they pretty much have a lifetime customer Winking smile

When they told me that I didn’t get the job, they offered me a complimentary VIP stay in one of their hotels to go with my choice of Rock N Roll Marathon! At first I chose Vegas, but with a 2 month old baby I didn’t think that would be the best idea. So I chose Arizona, a race I have always wanted to run and I have family and friends that live in Phoenix, so it was perfect! Plus it’s only a 5 hour drive.

I will be staying at the Westin Downtown Phoenix, nice and close to the start! Can’t wait to rest in their heavenly beds!

I am excited because the course is supposed to be flat and pretty fast! Ok, not super excited about the flat because I love hills, obviously I did the Temecula Half, HOLY HILLS!

Chris the RunWestin Concierge did a great job about explaining some of the course on his blog.

I have never run this flat of course, so this should be interesting. I am gonna stick to my awesome Mountains to Beach playlist. It got me to Boston, so I will just stick with it!

A lot of folks have asked about my training plan. As I have mentioned before I am a Run Less Run Fast kinda girl. Well I didn’t train so fast for this race, but definitely less. I started training on December 7th, so that gave me a whole six weeks to get in my long runs!

I started with a 10 mile run in Memphis…

13 miles….

16 miles…

back to 14 miles…

18 miles…

and then 10!

In between I have been keeping up with two days of strength training and a bike ride a week!

As well as soaking up sweet moments with my little!

We ran one 6 mile run and one 8-10 mile run during the week (lots of it was with pushing the BOB, so I better be stronger for that).

So total I trained about 25-30 miles a week and I am perfectly fine with that! I know that is not for everyone, but mentally and physically that is perfect for me. As soon as this race is over, I will start training for Boston and that will be a 9 week training plan adding in some SPEED work for kicks!

This week I am sticking to 100% clean eats! No sugar, no alcohol, and no junk!  Not that I eat a ton of that anyway, but I want to feel as light as air for this race. I have been a hydrating machine, drinking at least 100 ounces of water and TONS of fruits, veggies, lean proteins and complex carbs as well as MY GREEN MONSTERS!

Do I have goals for this race? Honestly I want to run this race as a declaration to being a FIT MOM! To encourage other parents out there to stay fit so they can be the best PARENTS they can be for the kiddos. Now that doesn’t mean they need to be running marathons (I am crazy) but just keep moving more! Of course I would love to run a sub 4 hour marathon and feel great at the finish, but when the gun goes off I will throw my earphones on just GO! 4 hours of me and the pavement. Lot’s of thinking will take place, even more prayer!

Question: If I added one song to my marathon playlist what should it be?

  2. Hey, I just noticed in one of your pics it looks like you’re wearing a garmin, but you gave a recap from Nike+ – do you use both? Is there a way to sync your garmin to Nike+ or do you just use both?

The reason I ask is that I used Nike+ when I first started running, I used it for a year and LOVED it. Now I use a garmin, and I love that it’s more accurate, but I miss the nice and basic Nike+ website (especially for PR’s and goals)…

  3. Good luck on your marathon! I hope this doesn’t come off wrong, but I have read a lot of sources and also inquired with our ped. about using the BOB while running with baby. My daughter is 5 1/2 months old with complete control of her head and was told to wait until at least 6 months before using the BOB so that they have more head and neck strength. I am in a colder climate than you, so I will wait a lot longer (until its warm enough for her to be out there for long distances).

I feel as though my daughter would take to it easily and is ready for it now but I am just so worried about making her sore. Any advice?

  4. Aviici wake me up! I love that song 🙂 have a great race

  5. Wow, I am running Houston this Sunday and Boston in April also! I am going to go with a similar run less plan as I have achilles tendonitis that is sure to be more aggravated after Houston. More biking and swimming, 3 days running. Hope to get some bridgework in as I live on the Gulf Coast – no hills. The tendonitis has prevented me from my bridge work leading to Houston – and it’s one of my favorite parts of Marathon training as it is by the beach over the intercoastal canal – always a beautiful time!

    Good Luck!

  6. Such fun photos – good luck on your 10th marathon! You’re ahead of me by 2 after this one. 🙂 An oldy, but goodie – I always have Superchick’s One More Mile on my race running playlist!

  7. Wow! This is such an inspiration to all moms! Congrats

  8. You’ll ROCK the race. Have a blast, Bobbi!

  9. I’m running the Carlsbad Marathon this weekend, so thanks for the reminder to hydrate!

My long runs followed a similar progression to yours due to scheduling, but I’m pretty sure my body needs more. Hoping for the best, though!

The song I can’t get out of my head is “Can’t Stop” by One Republic!

  10. have fun in az! its my hometown and i had thought about running this half, but decided to take a break from running after the holidays. i ran my first half in november and am planning running my second in march.

have fun and i hope you love az!

  11. Wow that is such amazing timing!

Good luck this is going to be so awesome for you! I can’t wait to hear all about it!

  12. I have to use the BOB when I run. My MIL heard someone that pushing a stroller while runner is like adding 30% more distance to your run. Not sure if that’s totally correct but when I ran a half marathon last month it felt so much easier than other races! Good luck.

  13. eye of the tiger!
best of luck on your marathon! I’m doing the Tinkerbell half on Sunday! 🙂

  14. She is soo amazing! There’s nothing like seeing a loving mommy with her little. 🙂 I love it so much and am glad you include pics with her!

This is super weird but I love ABBA… So I would add an ABBA song. Or Toby Mac. But I don’t run fast at all so I may not be the best person to listen too on that topic! 😉

I hope it goes well! More RJ!
