RJ Eats Real Food

Happy HUMP DAY! Is it Wednesday already?!

This mama got 7 hours of solid sleep last night and felt like a champ teaching KB this morning!

Can you believe I only have 26 more days until the BOSTON MARATHON?! Training is going well. I did my last 18 mile run last weekend and FELT GREAT! It’s time to start planning our trip out East! We are headed to Maine after the marathon, are there any places we should visit or explore while we are there?? We are thinking Portland for sure. Also if any of you are in Boston, I would love to do a blogger meet up!

Well the time has come and RJ is officially ready to try REAL FOOD! She is 6 months and 3 weeks old, where did the time go? This is something that I have been truly looking forward to. I love to cook and I knew that I would love to make all of RJ’s food if I had the time. Well now it is part of my Sunday PREP day! Every Sunday I blend up a new vegetable and fruit for RJ to enjoy for the week. I, of course, start with one item for three days and then switch to the next. I can’t wait to do some mixing of items, once she get’s through trying most foods.

In case you are wondering what foods to give to your baby and what stage in their life, here is a fun list I found on Pinterest.

So far RJ has tried the following:

Kale, Carrots, Green Beans, Mangos, Bananas, Oats and Banana Nut Squash. She hasn’t really turned any of it away! Her typical eating schedule goes like this: 6am bottle, 8 am Green Monster (which I make in small batches a head of time on Sunday using kale, banana, and mango), 9am bottle, 12pm Bottle, 2pm REAL FOOD, 3pm Bottle, 6pm REAL food, 6:30 small bottle.

{First time in her highchair (thanks to my friend Heather)}

She even drinks her green monsters out of a sippy cup with a straw. (These is the Playtex brand.)

I have been making her food in the Vita-mix and then pouring them into ice-cube trays and freezing. Once the food is frozen, I take the cubes out of the trays and put them into small ziploc bags (labeled with the date the food was made and what it is). In the morning, I take out all the food that RJ will eat for the day and just set it on the counter top to defrost or put in the fridge.

Now, I know that I won’t always be able to make everything for RJ and there are some great companies out there that do make REAL FOOD for babies! When Beech-Nut asked if I would like to do a review of their products I was excited!  This is perfect for those times when I just can’t find the time to make all of her food.

Beech-Nut is proud to provide nutritious food choices to support the growth and development of your baby. Beech-Nut baby food is made with natural ingredients. That means no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. Beech-Nut leaves out what you don’t want and leaves in the natural and essential nutrients you do want.

I loved that all the labels show that the ingredients are just what they say: the jar of carrots is just carrots, the jar of Honey Crisp apples, is just apples, and so on and so on! Plus how cute are these little glass jars (which I will be reusing)?!

Even better, they are pretty much in all the local grocery stores! You can check here to see where the closest place is for you to buy them. These will be perfect for vacation and moments when we need to grab and go!

I can’t believe this little bundle of JOY is growing up so FAST! Everyday I tell her I am going to fold her up in my pocket so she can’t grow anymore. Winking smile

Coming soon on the blog…lots fun Sexy Salads that I have been enjoying!

Disclaimer: Beech-Nut provided me with some samples of their products for an honest review, but I was not pressured to write a positive review and all opinions expressed in today’s post are mine alone.

I hope to make most of my little guys good food too- he’s 7 weeks. Cant wait for him to try avocados and bananas. Those Beech-Nut options look great and I’ll be sure to pick those up as well.

  2. Hello! I love that you are giving RJ green monsters! I have an 8 month old and want to start making him smoothies to try. Did you add any liquid to the green monster or was it just the fruit and veggies? Thanks!

    1. A little bit:) just to make it easier for her to drink.

Hi Bobbi! I am a huge fan of your blog and baby RJ (she is so adorable!). I live in Boston and will actually be volunteering at the Boston Marathon Expo on Saturday, April 19 at the Hynes Convention Center. I’ll be working in the Adidas booth handing out the official marathon poster with all of the runners names on it. If you’re in town that day I would love to meet you! As for Maine, Ogunquit is a cute little town about an hour and 15 minutes north of Boston. There are some nice restaurants on the water that would be good to check out for lunch with a view. 🙂

    1. Oh my gosh I will so look for YOU!!!!! Thanks for the tips:) can’t wait to check out these places.

  4. Hey Bobbi! Your daughter is so beautiful! I love that she is loving green monsters! My 2 year old has been loving them since she was little too and I think it is such a great way to get a bunch of fruits and veggies in kids especially when they start deciding they don’t want to eat them in other ways. My husband and I spent our honeymoon in Maine and if you are near Rockland definitely check it out! We stayed at the Berry Manor Inn in Rockland and it was completely amazing so if you’re looking for a place to stay, even for one night, I would check them out! Plus, Rockland is about 10 miles from Camden which is also a really cute little coastal town! I would also recommend Bar Harbor but its quite a ways north. Have a great trip!

    1. Sounds beautiful!!!

  5. I love watching wee ones eat/experience different foods for the first time, it can be quite humorous at times to see their facial expressions upon first bite 🙂

25 days is going to fly by! Congrats on your successful training so far and keep up all the good work!
