My beautiful friend Amanda from Run To The Finish started this challenge and it has been a lot of fun to be a part of! I love that it runs through the whole Holiday season to keep people motivated to keep moving!
So here is the low down from Amanda:
I love this challenge because it provides added incentive to find time for workouts, find room for veggies and feel good through the holiday season. Weâ€
ve all seen the reports that the average American gains and maintains 5lbs every holiday season…that is not the gift that I want to receive or give! Amazingly a lot of people find that with this challenge they end up being MORE active than before because what you measure you change…and suddenly measuring your activity really gets you going!
HBBC CHANGES
A few changes are in play this year. As the group has grown it has become very noticeable that some folks simply could never win with their weight lifting, yoga workouts against a competitive triathlete based on the point system. Instead of changing the points, you will see on the sign up form levels…so there will be multiple prize categories based upon the LEVEL you select.
Builders: Maybe you just started training for your first 5k, you are just getting in to the habit of working out..OR you are building your body the majority of the time through yoga and weights. These activities are wonderful but it is hard to earn the same number of points as someone with a 20 mile run.
Doers: You have a training plan that you have been committed to for awhile. Maybe you are trying for your first half marathon, first sprint tri, or just overall increasing your weekly workouts to keep off the holiday fudge.
Advanced: If you are training for a half ironman, ironman, your umpteenth marathon, practice yoga twice daily and run and kick box… letâ€
s be honest you know who you are. If you are active nearly every day in some way shape or form you fall in to the Advanced group…you Type A people should be pleased.
POINTS
There is always some discussion about the points, but I believe the system is correct. I would say Iâ€m happy to debate it with you…but Iâ€
m not.
1 Point per mile (run/walk)
1 Point per 3 miles biked
1 Point per 20 minutes of weight lifting, Pilates, yoga, stretching or abs
1 Point per 15 minutes of low impact cardio (i.e. low impact aerobics, easy biking, skiing, skating, water aerobics, snow shoeing)
1 Point per 10 minutes of high impact cardio (i.e.spinning, kickboxing, lap swimming)
1 Per day where you reach a minimum of 7 servings of fruits and veggies
The Challenge will run from Nov 19 to Jan 6…this helps to cover you for the major holidays!
Additional points: Because I am all about taking care of your entire mind, body, soul connection there will be additional posts/questions where you can earn points throughout the challenge. Examples have included points for cleaning house for visitors, meditating, reading a book just for you, getting the family active instead of on the couch.
Each week there will questions posted on Facebook and those who participate will earn extra points. The goal is to help us all get to know and support each other with great ideas.
STANDARD FAQS
Examples of counting points:
1 hour cross training class of weights and cardio: 2 points weights and 2 points cardio.
1 hour cross country skiing: 4
Why is it weighted towards running? The majority of readers are runners looking for added holiday motivation…and thatâ€s simply how it was when I started it…seems to get us all out the door a little more.
I donâ€t have a blog can I participate: Yes, but as noted in tracking points there must be some method for us to see what youâ€
re doing. DailyMile, Facebook or another ongoing tool to provide proof.
TRACKING POINTS
Keep track of your points through whatever means you’d like…just be honest. I will provide a Google Doc for everyone to enter their points weekly and see how others are doing. The upside is it can inspire you and the downside is some folks get tempted to cheat. Based on an issue we had in year one, I will probably need to ask for proof of some sort if the winner blows us all out of the water.
A lot of bloggers like Marlene posted her points in a weekly workout log and it was fun to see everyone commenting or realizing they needed to get their butts in gear. Itâ€s also great to Tweet with #HBBC to follow each other and offer support.
PRIZES
As you know I donâ€t show you everything up front because I donâ€
t want you to cheat to get all the goodies or even know how you can get all the goodies. I like to do mini giveaway throughout to encourage your ongoing participation.

RECAP OF LAST NIGHT
We met up with our Thursday night group and went to the Farmers Market here in town, itâ€
s at night which I know is unique to our little town. We had so much fun, watched the carolers, shopped for breads, shopped for produce, and had some hot chocolate afterward. I didnâ€
t get too much there, just some carrots (for the pot roast I am making today), a mini butternut squash and some sourdough bread (for the hubby of course).

Before we left I made this beautiful Cranberry Salmon Salad!

OFF AND OUT!
Well I am off to work, going to be a busy day we are making Gingerbread this will be a first for me! Tonight we are going to a Christmas Concert with some friends and then tomorrow hubby and I are in for a full day of shopping and baking ( I know Hubby is THRILLED). HAVE A HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!!!!!
P.S. Here is a pic of the Christmas trees I made with my class, there super easy and soooo cute!

t start eating till almost 10pm!!!! So I just went with a boring bowl of cereal. I know that this would not be enough fuel for me but it was EASY and I was pooped. I ended up getting up in the middle of the night STARVING, will not do that again.
I mixed a little Kashi GoLean and some Granola. Topped off with 1/2 sliced nanner, and some PB!

Ok the bag that was posted last night that said “chocolate covered candy cane” was the coffee I purchased at the local coffee chop…lol…and it was wonderful. I will be buying coffee from them again!
Last night I had decided to just sleep in today. I don’t remember the last day I had a DAY OFF from exercise. I think it was LAST Wednesday so today will be that day, I am planning on walking a little on my break to get those points in for the HBBC,! My total points so far are 23.5.
Sense I had a little time on my hands this morning I baked up m version of the beautiful Fitnessistas breakfast cookie. I have been eyeing it for quite some time, and figured in honor of trying something NEW everyday this month I needed to try it.
Pumpkin Protein Pancakes
1/2 c oats
1/2 sliced banana
1/2 cup oats
1 egg
1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder
2 tbs skim milk
dash of pumpkin spice
handful of flaxseed
Directions: Mix all ingredients together in a bowl, then spread like a large COOKIE in a frying pan or griddle. Heat for 3-5 minutes on each side, eat and ENJOY!
This was so EASY and so yummers! It’s a lot like a protein pancake that I have made minus the cottage cheese. I added a little almond butter to add some sweetness! I will be making more variations soon!

Well it’s CAMPING DAY as we say at my gym. It’s ONE more day until FRIDAY! I don’t know why we say camping day…lol… Tonight we are going to the Farmers Market to watch some friends sing carols and have coffee with them after, can’t wait! I love the Farmers Market, I need some fresh produce hope they have a good selection.
I leave you with this:
MY MINI BOOTCAMP PART II
This is the plank, I know most of you know how to do this, but have you done it where you bring your knees down and up? Well try it, it might help you to do it longer! Let me know what you think?
t know how I got up to EARLY, but I did! I thought I would try an old highschool cross country route this morning, itâ€
s funny too me that this 8 mile course was our LONG run. I was at the top of the hill so I did the course backward, BIG MISTAKE! Thank GOD I had my heed and gels, otherwise I would have died out there! The first 4 miles were all DOWN hill, and you know what that means that on the way back I had to run up hill. I thought it was just a GRADUALE down hill but I was wrong, it was STEEP. Man I stopped looking at my pace, not to get discouraged and trudged up those hills. The last half mile was down hill so I sprinted in and finished hard. I donâ€
t think I have breathed that hard on a run in a LONG time.
BEST BOWL OF OATS
After that killer run, I made the best bowl of pumpkin oats!!!
The combo:
½ c of oats
½ c soy milk
½ c H2O
¼ c of pumpkin
½ banana
Pinch of pumpkin spice
1/8 banana PROBAR
Handful of flax seed
Handful of Almonds
2 tablespoons mini chocolate chips
Sprinkle of brown sugar

CHRISTMAS WORKOUT MUSIC

t know this already I teach AKB (Aerobic Kickboxing) and I consider myself a motivator in the gym and at home! I am going to post some videos these next few weeks to show you some moves you can do at home, that take so little time but get you ready for the NEW YEAR. I want you all to look and feel your best for 2009, itâ€
s your time to SHINE!MY CHRISTMAS WISH
What I want for Christmas is to be able to do the inaugural Kauaâ€
i Marathon!!! I absolutely love Kauai, hubby and I went there on our honey moon, and we found our second home away from home. I would love to save up for this marathon, itâ€
s my next marathon goal after the Boston Marathon. Anyone want to go with me????!!!!
STARTING SCHOOL- THE JOURNEY TO BECOMING AN RD
Well I did it I registered for my first college class since 2006! I am on a journey to become a Registered Dietician ( and RD). I am so excited about starting in January!!! I will be taking 3 prerequisites in the next 6 months, before I start my Masters in Dietics. So these next months are going to be a true test to see if I am ready to be back at school. I am taking one class at a time, which I NEVER did in college, I always had 20 units and worked 2 jobs! I know that Anatomy and Physiology will be tough, but itâ€
s only 2 days a week, so I think and hope I can handle it. The class is Friday morning 8am-11am and Saturday mornings 8am-11am (no more sleeping in on weekends). I canâ€
t wait to start; I know this is what I need to be doing to get to where I want to be!
NEW THINGS FOR A NEW YEAR COUNTDOWN
December 9: I ate a GUAVA!!! I have never had one of these and a co-worker brought them in, of course I had to try them, VERY good but A LOT off seeds.
CREATE YOUR OWN COOK BOOK CONTEST WINNER!
The judges are still working at it stay tuned, promise to post the winner tomorrow.
CHRISTMAS CARDS
Well hubby did a great job of designing Christmas Cards! I am so glad we went with Bosco on them, it is so cute. I am going to finish stuffing them and putting them in the mail tomorrow (only 3 days later then I wanted to get them out).

DINNER AND A SURPRISE!
When I got home tonight I made a yummy whole wheat butternut squash qusedilla. I mixed butternut squash puree with s little Colby cheese, black beans, and spread on top of a quesadilla with a little sour cream of course. Then on the side I had a cranberry feta salad. It was the perfect amount of carbs, protein and fats!!!

Then I saw that I got a package from the lovely folks at LARABAR (thankyou!), it included a ton of LARABARS of course and a cute T-shirt ( I be wearing this to work tomorrow!). Along with my new Runners World Magazine I canâ€
t wait to read!

WRAP UP
Well I did my AKB tonight and I was pretty exhausted, I am taking tomorrow off and doing some yoga in the AM. I KNOW my body needs it! I am teaching AKB in the evening so I need to be refreshed. RANDOM THOUGHT: I want to do a half marathon in January I have decided, I think it will be a great way to start the NEW YEAR, and kick off my Boston training, anyone know of any good ones close to SO CAL? Ok I am going to head to bed and watch a little TV and stuff envelopes. Hope you all had a TERRIFIC TUESDAY!!!!
P.S. Donâ€

It’s getting COLD out here in Cali I think the low was like 48…I know I know, I am lucky but for this thin skinned girl that is cold. I will be back to my normal pics and super dinners tomorrow.
Well I did something new today!
