t believe it has been 2 weeks since the Boston Marathon! Where does time go?! THANK YOU ALL for all the encouragement and for the birthday wishes!
Shall we start the recap back at the night before the race? All kinds of emotions were going on in my head. The first was the feeling that this marathon was going to a lot different than any marathon I had ever run, including the first time I did Boston. You could feel the city’s emotion and tension as you walked around town in anticipation of  “RUN BOSTON STRONG”! I didnâ€
t feel as many sad emotions as much as I felt ready to run for the honor and for the memory of those affected by the 2013 Boston marathon tragedy.
The best thing about the Boston Marathon is that it doesn’t start until 10:30am so I didn’t have a crazy 4am wake up call. I stayed downtown with a friend, babyless, so that I could try and get the best rest possible. I got a solid 7 hours of sleep, threw all my gear on, and even decided to wear my official race shirt (which is usually a big NO NO for a race). But, I really wanted to sport my blue and yellow!
My friend Janet and I headed to the Boston Commons around 8am and got on the bus for the long hour ride to the Athlete’s Village-AKA the start line!
It was WAY MORE crowded than in 2009!!! There was barely an open spot to sit down and stretch.
There were bagels, coffee, PowerBars, and some other fun goodies to enjoy before the start of the race. While we waited I applied my temporary tattoo, which may or may not still be on my leg. ![]()
I strolled to the start line. No rush, right? I mean my time didnâ€
t start until I crossed the start line. As I was walking I noticed how much it had warmed up and I quickly had to take my long sleeved shirt off and tie it around my waist. I couldnâ€
t believe how warm it was!
I sported some Refresh Attire and my new Boston necklace that Hubby got me for my birthday!
Before I knew it I was crossing the start line and running my second BOSTON MARATHON!
Miles 1-5
The last time I ran Boston I had a very hard race. By the time I hit mile 17 I was struggling. So for this race, I truly wanted to feel strong until the end. Maybe not fast, but healthy and fit, soaking up everything the race had to offer. I didnâ€
t want to go out to fast (I went out way to fast last time) so I made sure to pay attention to my pace and stay between 8:30 and 9:00. I remember someone once asked me, “Why do you run marathons so fast? Why not just slow down and enjoy the entire race?†So I DID!
Miles 6-10
These were some of the most fun miles! I loved loved loved all the spectators’ signs and cheers, but I do have to say that I did run with music and it was a huge help! I ran with one earphone in and one out so I could hear everyone scream.
I loved the spirit of this marathon, random people running up to you giving you high fives, handing you oranges, popsicles (I had two), and filling me with such JOY!
‘The Boston marathon is actually a really pretty race. The trees are really beautiful and I loved seeing all the historic homes.
Miles 10-15
My half marathon time was 1:52:22 . Last time  it was WAY FASTER and way too FAST! I was so happy that I was listening to my body. During my training, I did experience some planters fasciitis and had to get new shoes. At this point in the race it started to act up a little because of all the down hill, but it wasn’t so bad that I felt like it was slowing me down. I recognized the pain and moved on from there. People always talk about the hills of Boston, but honestly the mix of both really is what makes runners sore the next day!
Miles 15-20 THE HILLS!!!!
This time I was ready for HEARTBREAK HILL! Last time I ran I didnâ€
t realize that it wasnâ€
t just one hill (my bad for not looking at the course).
Honestly I was really proud of myself for maintaining my speed and drive up those hills, no bad thoughts just smiles, and I didnâ€
t walk once! I encouraged those around me and then turned up the music and dug deep! The hardest thing about these hills is the placement. Itâ€
s not that they are super steep (well they are) but more than anything they are tough because they start where most people hit their walls!!!
Miles 20-24
This was a freeing moment for me. I hadn’t hit a wall. I was feeling really good minus being a little warm from the weather. I was ready to finish. My mantra at this point was “Finish with your head high and your heart out!” I think this sign about a random stranger may have made me laugh all along the way!!!! I mean that’s what the Boston Marathon is all about: cheering on complete strangers and being a part of the experience!
Gotta love Santa at the top of the last HILL!
THE FINISH LINE
This was it. I was about to finish my second Boston Marathon and I seriously had to hold back the tears at mile 23! I started getting super emotional as this may be my last Boston Marathon and my last marathon for awhile. I had sacraficed many hours of training, pushing a stroller, afternoon runs in the 90 degree heat, running on 4 hours of sleep for this moment!!! But then I knew that I couldn’t wait to one day tell my daughter about this race and how she could do it one day if she wanted because it’s not about talent or being born a fast runner…but it is about discipline and determination! I knew that I would finish well and finish STRONG…BOSTON STRONG!
Official Boston Time:Â 3:51:45
What an incredible experience and I just couldn’t wait to celebrate the rest of the week with my family! Our New England vacation post is coming soon!
P.S.Here is my awesome playlist that I put together with the help of all my IG friends!!!!

On Sunday morning bright and early Susie got our gear on and hit downtown Redlands to run the Run through Redlands Half Marathon for the third time (well fourth if you count the one time I was bandit). Megan was so sweet and hooked us up with these awesome shirts to show our Boston Love!
After a weekend of fun in the sun, wine and dancing I wasnâ€
t sure what to expect, but I was going to give it my all.
#prayforboston #runnersunite #lululemonskirt
The best thing about local races is that you get to see friendly faces/clients everywhere you go!
I decided to give my Saucony Kinvara 4â€
s!!! OH MY these are by far my new favorite shoe! They are soooooo light and I felt like I was running on air! I love how they slip on super easy and love the color! I am now a Sucony believer! Not one blister and no pain at all in my feet!
This race starts pretty late. The gun didnâ€
t go off till about 7:45am and it was already in the 70â€
s!
Now for a little recap on this race…..
This race is about 7 miles up HILL! I know crazy right? So I was mentally prepared to take my time up the hills and pick up any time lost on the downhill. Well as soon as the gun went off I got in RACE MODE, I just canâ€
t help it. I kept my pace between 7 minute miles and 7:30 pretty much the first 3 miles. As soon as the steep hills hit I still tried to keep my pace of 7:30, but didnâ€
t look at my watch once. I listened to my body, shortened my stride, lowered my arms and ran with my heart. As soon as I hit that last hill, I WAS SO READY TO PICK IT UP!!!! I blasted some Eminem (yep heâ€
s my go to running music mix) and took off! I kept between a 6:30 and 7:20 the whole way down. I passed about two girls and I knew I was up there, because someone yelled at me and told me I was girl #3. I saw girl #2 and I just followed her steps. I knew that this was MY RACE and if I couldnâ€
t pas her, it would be ok….I was running for me. The last three miles I turned my music off and just started praying. Praying for Boston, praying for every runner around me, for all of my family and thanking God for all that he has given me! IT WAS AMAZING! I passed girl #2 and really started moving!!! I FELT SOOOOO GOOD! Nothing hurt and my stride was so open. Normally I feel like my legs get so heavy, but not this time. I saw the finish line and I sprinted my heart out!

I opened up my stride even wider and got my final KICK in!!! Nothing like almost passing out at the finish line!!! I WAS FINISHED!!! I knew I was one of the first girls up, but I wasnâ€
t sure how close I was to the first girl.
I was shooting for a 1:45!! So I would say I WAS presently surprised to see a 1;39!! Guess all that speed work is working!!
Susie did awesome too!!! She was well under 2 hours!!
Megan rocked her first 5k!
and guess who beat me???? I came in second to my cross country coach from HIGH SCHOOL!! I only hope to be this fast when I am her age!! She rocked it!
The swag, finisher metal, first in my age division, and second female overall. Some pretty awesome birthday presents!
RUN THROUGH REDLANDS RECAPS

WHAT AN AMAZING RACE! I am ready for the Ojai marathon and who knows, maybe I will even Boston Qualify…maybe!
]]>This week I finally added a fun new addition to our Memory Wall! Do you see it?
The wall is coming a long quite nicely.
I am still heartbroken over the events that took place on Monday and have been wearing all my Boston gear in support of all those who were effected by the tragedy. Praying , Praying, Praying. I love the runner community and how so many prayers and thoughts have gone out to Boston. What a blessing to see all the unity!
Amy and I went out to dinner last night after the gym and we enjoyed some snow pea shrimp with brown rice. Loved every bite! I am seriously a burning machine right now, canâ€
t get enough food!
She was so sweet and gave me my birthday present early!!! I was so EXCITED!!! She got me a Fitbit!! I have been wanting one of these. I am hoping this will motivate me to move more at work, instead of sitting at the desk all day
Full review to come soon! Have you tried the Fitbit?
This morning I hit the pavement at 4:45am to tackle a killer speed workout! MAN, WHO AM I? Itâ€
s amazing how dedicated I can become once I sign up for a marathon!
I am pretty sure I ate about 6 meals today and the best one was this amazing combo: Ezekial toast, avocado, tomato, egg and pepper. Full of all the good macro nutrients, protein, carbs, and healthy fats!
I finished the night off with an awesome kickboxing class! LOVE TEACHING, but man is it a LONG day when you wake up at 4am…6 more weeks of training, then all goes back to normal (well whatever normal is??!!).
Friends just a few more days until the Summer Shred registration closes, donâ€
t miss out!! Here is another fun shout out from the last Shred group I did!!
TIME TO PASS OUT AND CALL IT A NIGHT!!!!
Night Night
]]>I thought for fun and for some new readers I would post my Boston Marathon Recap from 3 years ago! It was the second most memorable moment of my life (first being my wedding). I would do it again in a heart beat! Enjoy.
Boston Marathon Race Recap- April 20 2009
I can not believe how organized this race is. They had water, food, blankets, gloves, tattoos(rub on), and more at the starting line. Thankfully it was not raining so we could walk around and keep our body’s warm. I met a lady named Julie Kennedy who had so many stories to tell me about her racing experiences! She has done NYC,Chicago,DC, you name it. I love meeting new runners at races and becoming great friends so fast.
I was in the first corral to leave along with 15,000 others. The anticipation at the starting line was unreal, I couldn’t wait for them to just say GOOOO!
Miles 1-5
The first five miles were amazing, besides the fact that I had to take a potty break! I guess that coffee went right through me. I made it quick and got right back on track. The race starts out slow, because you are dodging hundreds of people, but it didnâ€
t matter because there were so many spectators that I was being entertained through the slowness. Well I wasn’t running as slow as I thought, when I looked down at my Garmin my pace was 7:30 I KNEW I needed to SLOW DOWN. My 5k time was 25:23, which is about an 8 minute mile so that was good.
Miles 6-10
My 10k time was 49:24. At mile 6 a girl approached me and asked me if I was Bobbi from nHerShoes? I of course said yes, she said she had recognized my shirt from my blog!!!! Her name was Jenny, I think she is a reader maybe even a blogger, if you are out their girl let me know???? She wished me luck and went on her way. I had so many wonderful people come up to me and wish me happy birthday and even SANG to me!!! WOW I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday present!I looked for Lacey, thought she was at mile 6 handing out water but I never saw her. My pace was ok, but I could tell I was still running a little too fast, it was hard not to when everyone was flying by you!!! People donâ€
t walk in this marathon, they sprint! I loved the loud and spirited crowds, they had music and bells and they NEVER STOPPED cheering!!!! I barely even had my Ipod on.
Miles 10-15
My half marathon time was 1:44:37 ( my fastest half marathon ever)which was great, but I knew if I didnâ€
t slow down I was not going to make it. The race up until this point was a lot more down hill then I thought, and my IT band started to burn. I was taking my gels, and drinking my Heed but my stomach felt a little queasy. I kept telling myself this is just a LONG RUN, and I have done way more miles then this. At the half way mark it started becoming mental, even with all the cheering I had to stay focused. I decided that I was going to sow my pace down and ENJOY THE RACE, otherwise I would burn out.
Miles 15-20 THE HILLS!!!!
Whoever said that HEARTBREAK HILL was one hill, lied! Its SEVERAL!!! They were nothing that I couldnâ€
t handle, but they just kept coming. I would get over one hill, and then before I knew it their was another, I am not even sure which one was Heartbreak Hill, I just know that they were killer and I pushed through them all!!! I glanced down at my Garmin and my pace had dropped I was now running 9 minute miles, but I knew that I was fine because the hills were slowing me down. I wanted to take it all in, I seriously never listened to my music and just listened to all the students scream at BOSTON COLLEGE. I have never seen soooo many people out like this to cheer runners on. I was giving people high fives, and at mile 18 I grabbed an orange from a little kid just to give him the satisfaction of helping out! ![]()
Miles 20-24
At mile 21 I hit a wall, I was starting to cramp up and became so discouraged when everyone was speeding by me. I told myself this is the FLIPPIN’ BOSTON MARATHON, you have trained for months, for years! I told myself, “this is your race, not all the other peoples!â€. It was becoming a mental game, yes my body hurt but I could push through the pain, and then something AMAZING happened. I saw my Hubby POP OUT of the crowd and he started running with me. He wanted to give me another bottle of Heed, and I asked him to run with me for a bit, I needed HIM! This seriously was the best part of the race for me! Hubby was telling me “Good Job Babe, you see all these people they are cheering for you!†He stayed right by me and kept encouraging me, I took a moment to look at the crowd and started to get overwhelmed in a good way. I canâ€
t believe I got to run 3 miles of the Boston Marathon with my AMAZING, KIND, ENCOURAGING husband!! He seriously was the reason I made it to the finish line. He left me at mile 25 and said “Finish strong babe!”
THE FINISH LINE
Hubby left me and I started picking up my pace, when I saw the 1 more mile sign I got tears in my eyes. I became a part of one of the most amazing events in running history, I was not just running the Boston Marathon, I was breathing it in! The crowd at the finish line was like being at Time Square on NEW YEARS EVE!!! I threw my fist up and they cheered louder, they were yelling, you’re doing great, you’re finishing, just run!â€. I did just that, I sprinted hard and finished with arms up in the AIR!!!! WOW I was speechless.
Official Stats: Time 3:50:13, at 8:47 pace. I couldnâ€
t be more pleased! I was so happy to finish strong.
50 crunches
100 bicycles
50 leg touches with feet in the air
50 leg touches side to side
1 minute plank
I had to run hubby to the car shop at 8 and then come home and make some breakfast. I made the most Delicious bowl of oats ever!
I just love the creamy texture of the pumpkin and banana in there. The tang of the cranberry sauce just made the whole thing perfect! I also had a cup of Joe of course, some people might love there bowls like Kath, but I love my coffee cups they all tell a story. Like this one, Mountain
When I arrived at home this evening I received an exciting letter in the mail. MY BOSTON CONFIRMATION letter! I am going to Boston.!I am so excited, not only to run the race but as a History major I will just eat up all that Boston has to offer! I have friend named Christina who lives there and has graciously offered me and the hubby a place to stay. This is a huge relief for two reason, one being that it cost like a bazillion dollars to stay anywhere near downtown, and everything else is booked! I can’t wait to see her too, we haven’t seen each other in quite a while. I can’t believe that I have actually qualified and will be training again in January, it’s all hitting me now, and to top it off the Boston Marathon this year is on my BIRTHDAY April 20th, what a way to celebrate!
So today was a pretty nice day, lots of sunshine so no complaints here. I don’t really post what I eat for lunch because it’s about the same thing every day. I work with a few simple ingredients.
Romain salad mix, goat cheese, tomotoes, can of salmon, pine nuts, pita chips, pita bread hummus, carrots, apples, and some watermelon on occasion.
I don’t eat all of this at one sitting but a combo of it throughout the week. So if I took pics they would all look the same:) My true passion is cooking dinner! I think I love the challenge and I love LOVE love the faces I get when hubby takes his first bite.
This year hubby and I didn’t make it out to get a pumpkin, but my wonderful coworker Cheryl brought me back on from her classes Field trip to the pumpkin patch. He so cute, I shall name him Corbin:) I am hoping that when hubby gets home from softball we can carve him.
I skipped out on my women’s group tonight, I need a night to myself. Some weeks just catch up on me all too fast, and I need some serenity, some peace and quite. So as soon as the hubby left, I turned up the Boss System and played some Run Kid Run and cleaned up a little, and then turned it down to some Frankie for cooking music and a glass of wine. I am currently waiting for dinner to be done, I will post pics in the morning. I am making a Chicken Green bean and Mushroom type casserole, with Alexis Red Potatoes.
I will have it on my new plate I got along with the bowl at Marshalls, only $2 and it’s my favorite color!
I will have to add it to my chest of dishes….
Tomorrow I have high hopes on running an hour run, and doing some free weights/ab workout. I want to get up nice and early, but it’s so dark outside right now so I might have to wait till the light comes out. I can’t wait for the time change!!! Three more days…
Hubby and I are headed to Memphis for Turkey Day this year. I wasn’t too excited because the weather isn’t the best out there, 30 degree temps are not my fave. But it will be nice to see my sister in law,and the parents. I am also excited to get some great food there too like O’Charlies, McCalisters, and the best Thai food place ever! Some background in case you don’t know hubby and I met in Memphis TN, where I went to college and then he moved back to California with me when we got married, what a trooper. Seeing that I have four brothers and all, I missed them all sooo much! I love that I have a huge family, it makes me want to have 5 kids myself, but I am willing to wait a little while:)
Well I better go check on the food! Have a great night. Oh and by the way go Phillie’s (this is for my friend Steph in Jersey).
