I love riding my bike, even if I only get out a couple of days a week. Itâ€
s always a lot more freeing and makes me feel like a kid again! I encourage you all to look into cycling. It may be technical, but donâ€
t be intimidated! Anyone can do it and you will LOVE it!
1. Safety: Honestly, I cannot stress this enough! Always wear a helmet. I know you may just be riding around the corner and donâ€
t think you need a helmet, but YOU NEVER KNOW!
Always be super aware of your surroundings especially if you are on a busy road. Ride as far to the right on the road as possible. Do not ride on the sidewalks and use your hand turn signals. If you are riding in a line and you are in the front, make sure you point down at objects that are in the road so that those following you can do the same for people behind them.
I personally do not ride alone because I never know what might happen, but if I do I make sure to always ride with my phone just in case.
2. Hydration: Proper hydration is critical for your safety and success. Poor hydration will cause you to cramp up and lessen your performance. I always carry two water bottles on my bike (One filled with Fitmixer electrolytes and the other with water). The last thing you want to do is run out of water!
3. Go Clipless:Â I know wearing clips are SCARY! Clipless pedals (also known as Clip-In or Step-In) are a two-part system for your bike. Part one is a small pedal with a locking mechanism and part two is a cleat that attaches to your bike shoe. The shoes clip into the pedals, giving you a very solid connection to your bike. Yes, clip in. So, why are they called clipless? Well, because before these existed, there were pedals with toe clips. Toe clips are the cages that go on a regular platform pedal that help keep your foot in place. They don’t clip onto your pedals and they don’t clip onto your foot, so it’s really a dumb name for them, but because they already existed, these newer pedals which actually do clip in had to pick another name. For some reason, they chose ‘clipless’. Either way, they will help you ride more efficiently! You will use a more full range of motion by pushing and pulling with your hamstrings and quads! Believe me, once you do it, you will wonder why you waited so LONG!
4. Changing a Tire: If you havenâ€
t learned then you need to! Practice at home. A lot of local bike shops hold workshops that help you change tires and show you how to care for your bike.
5. Find a group: It is so much fun to ride with others! Plus, in case something happens or you get lost, you are in it together. Ask your local bike stores about riding groups and you can also check out MEET UP. It helps connect you with locals that ride.
6. Use Your Core – Not Your Arms: One of the best pieces of advice I ever got from someone. You should not put all your weight on your handle bars and on to your shoulders. Use your core to hold yourself up. It will make a world of a difference and help from having your hands go numb!
7. Get Fitted: It is very important that you get your bike fitted for your height. You donâ€
t want to hurt your back or legs because itâ€
s too high or too low. Once your bike is fitted to you, you will ride more easily and efficiently.
8. Sign Up for a Race: Get motivated! Having a goal in mind will help keep you on that bike more days than not. Itâ€
s fun to train for something and then finish feeling accomplished!
![]()
9. Take Fuel: For some reason I am always hungrier on the bike than I am running. Probably because I am usually on my bike a lot longer than I when I run. I like to carry Shot Blocks, Vega bars, homemade bars and Zingers. There are so many choices out there, you may have to test out a few (or make your own) before you know what gives you sustained energy and what doesn’t upset your stomach.
10. Gear: You will want to wear a jersey that has pockets in the back for easy access to fuel or carry other needed items. I also highly recommend bike shorts! The padding will help your saddle soreness… promise it getâ€
s better! Cycling gloves are essential as well as they will help keep your palms cushioned through your ride as well as protect your hands in case you fall. Lastly, I really suggest wearing proper sunglasses for protection from the sun as well as BUGS. You would be surprised how many times my glasses have saved me from getting a bug in my eye.
More tips to come… and maybe even a fun video ![]()

I will be following most of Tim Hollandâ€
s “The 12-Week Athlete†Training Plan again, just like I did for my Half Ironman. I love that the book has a plan for every level of athlete. I am going to stick to the Intermediate Olympic Distance plan with a little bit of my own flare.
What my plan consists of:
You can see it more clearly HERE. I have never done this distance of a Tri before, so my #1 goal is to have fun training and finish well.
I LOVE TRIATHLONS so much and I am pretty sure this might be my favorite distance! After this, I will have done every distance besides a full Ironman which I will do one day! I know in the Olympics they get anywhere from 1 hour & 45 minutes to 2 hours finishing times… ya I am aiming for a “3 hours or less” kind of time.
A 30 minute swim, 1 hour 30 minutes bike, 1 hour run. We shall see.
I am so excited to get back in the pool and riding my bike more constantly. I will be doing TUESDAY TRI updates over the next 11 weeks in hopes to encourage you all to get the passion and desire to do one too!

Friday morning Susie and I did a wonderful 5 mile run and just missed the rain! I think this will be the last time I wear my long sleeves for a while. I also got to test out my new KOSS FIT SERIES headphones and they fit like a glove!! I love how light they are and they didnâ€
t move at all. The sound is great too, even though I have the volume pretty low, so we can chat.
As soon as I got off work on Friday night the Hubby asked if I wanted to go for a bike ride to the local Farmers Market! Only one of my life long dreams
I have always wanted to ride around town, but I donâ€
t feel comfortable riding alone all the time. Thank goodness that the light held out a bit for us to enjoy the sunset and after we left the Farmers Market we rode to a new local Chinese Restaurant.
We rarely if EVER eat Chinese food, but we thought why not…letâ€
s live a little! I ordered the tofu veggie stir fry steamed and I added some chili paste and soy sauce. It was actually really good and they give you a ton!!!
The best part of the evening was hubbyâ€
s fortune. How perfect?!
Our 5 mile ride on Friday led to a 22 mile ride on Saturday morning!! I love waking up early together and being active. I can not tell you how much joy this brings me. We did a pretty tough ride..I think the coach came out in me and I was pushing hubby up some CRAZY hills.. he loved me for it ![]()
Have I mentioned that I have been loving all the GREEN MONSTER recipes from my Shred! This week it was a tropical green monster. 1/2 cup OJ, 1/2 cup Coconut Water, 1 cup almond milk, frozen pineapple, mango and a banana, 2 cups kale or spinach. Blend and enjoy!
Thank goodness this weekend at work we had a HEALTH retreat up and I was able to enjoy some really GOOD EATS!
Got my prep on, on Saturday…we are headed into week 3 of the SHRED!
I am excited to try some of these yummy smoothies this week from my Cooking Light Magazine this month. I am kind of on a smoothie kick!
When I got home from work on Saturday, Hubby had dinner waiting for me on the patio! He grabbed me an Annieâ€
s, Veggie no cheese pizza! I made a huge sexy strawberry and spinach salad. All was enjoyed with a glass of Cupcake Cab!
As if the weekend wasnâ€
t packed with enough activities already, Susie and I finished our last long run at 6:30am on Sunday for a HOT 13 miles!!! We kept a good 8:22 pace and finished STRONG! Only 13 days till the MARATHON!!! Itâ€
s taper time ![]()
After a long morning run there is only one thing to do on Motherâ€
s day and thatâ€
s whatever my MAMA wants to do. She requested we hang out at the pool all day and enjoy being LAZY!
Sun +Pool +Mom + Family = BEST MOTHERS DAY EVER!
Hey, I may not be a mom yet…but I sure know how to relax like one ![]()
Apparently I was the only one that thought the water felt amazing! Itâ€
s because I brought a floaty and even though everyone made fun of me!
Finally hubby joined me ![]()
Out of the pool and end to the park. We grilled out and I enjoyed mostly clean eats, but did have a all beef hot dog..mom made me! Love that we were playing in the park like KIDS!
Almost all the brothers made it this year, just missing Chris (missed you bro). So good to just relax and hang out with each other for the day, definitely donâ€
t do that enough. Love my MAMA and I am so blessed by all that she has done for us kids more then she will ever know! Hopefully God willing I will get to celebrate Motherâ€
s day as a mom…and if not..then I will still have a blast!
Question: How was your Motherâ€
s day weekend, what did you do?
t believe all that went down in Boston, I am praying for everyone that was in the explosion. What a day On a happier note this weekend was super productive in our Marathon training!! I feel like all I did was RUN all weekend, well I kinda did.
Friday started off with a 10 mile run, done before 6am!!
I also went to Yoga Friday night and my Bestie D made me an amazing Salmon dinner!! She is such a good cook and I loved the Jasmine Brown rice from Trader Joeâ€
s. She added almonds and green onions to it, perfection! We sat in the hot tub after and stayed up talking till past midnight!!!
Late night or not I was up early for a 20 mile Bike ride with Susie and friends!
I love riding my Bike with a group, itâ€
s always so much more fun and I feel so much safer!
Later the Hubâ€
s and I went to a surprise Birthday lunch for a friend and got to get our baby fever on!!
And of course there was some major carb loading going on Saturday night, cause I had a 20 miler on Sunday!!! I enjoyed a big bowl of whole wheat pasta, marinara, ground turkey and spinach. OH REAL WHITE BREAD it has been too long!!!
Woke up early on Sunday and crushed 20 miles!!!! Susie and I were flying!! We were well under 8 minute miles for the last 5 miles and had an average pace of 8:15!!
My burn was CRAZY!!! I forgot to turn my watch off right away, but still I could pretty much eat an entire days worth of calories and then some!
Our men picked us up and we hit up brunch where I enjoyed an egg white veggie scramble with avocado!! I enjoyed every bite! I am normally not very hungry after running, but I WAS STARVING!
The last thing I want to do after a long run is SIT! I would much rather move to keep my legs from getting stiff, so the Hubby and I went to Home Depot and got some plants for the Garden! I canâ€
t wait to garden this year!
When I finally got home, I jumped in the shower then in to my cozies!!!
I am limiting my wine to just Sundays while I train, so opening this baby on Sunday was well worth the wait!! Love a good Syrah!
We also made Home Made Veggie Pizza and watched “Flightâ€, what a depressing but good movie!
Oh and side note, check out this awesome testimonial from one of my New Years Shred participants. You can still sign up for the Summer Shred!!!!
Alright friends, I have to run! I have my Soul Sisters coming over tonight for some food and prayer! Thank goodness todays was a rest day ![]()
Question: Did you see Flight? What did you think?
]]>
t wait to sleep in Saturday morning.
So you all know I am well on my way to training for the Ojai marathon, but I am also training for a super awesome ride in June! The La Bella Preme Womenâ€
s Cycling Challenge is on Saturday June 1st. The longest ride I have ever done is 60 miles, so 63 miles will be a new PR! The best part is that I get to ride with a wonderful group of ladies. ITâ€
s an ALL LADIES ride!!! How fun is that??? As if this ride isnâ€
t going to be amazing already, itâ€
s in Malibu CA
Hello BEACH!

Friends you should so sign up! Registration fee is currently $150 (which includes a limited-edition Primal jersey – which is a great deal) The ride starts and ends at Triunfo Creek Vineyards.
Best part is itâ€
s a Womenâ€
s cycling challenge – itâ€
s not a race and itâ€
s not about who rides the fastest, itâ€
s about she who rides with the most heart!!! There are actually three route options: 11 miles, 31 miles, 63 miles. So anyone can join the ride!
Honestly this ride just keeps getting better and better. After the ride they are hosting a post-ride celebration at the winery – including a four-course dinner, catered by a local farm-to-table eatery. How fun and wonderful does that sound?!!!!!
I am super excited that Kalli who I am riding with and enjoy a glass of wine at the finish!!!
Whoâ€
s in???
On Saturday morning, I woke up bright and early to meet Susie and Troy to go on a ride with a local cycling group called Ride Yourself Fit!
Itâ€
s for a level of riders, from beginners to advance. They have a 10 mile ride, 20 mile ride, and 30 mile ride. Seeing as I have a 62 mile ride in June, I thought I better step it up and join the 30 milers.
It was an awesome course and the most beautiful weather! I liked that we stayed as a group and didnâ€
t leave anyone behind. I met a friend named Brenda on the ride and chatting with her made the time just fly right by!
Gotta love the burn from a 3 hour bike ride!
I met up with Susie and Troy for brunch, where I enjoyed an egg white spinach omelet with avocado and of course home fries!
Later that afternoon the Hubby and I went to my grandparents house for a little early Easter/birthday party for my cousin Caden. I canâ€
t believe he is 17!!!
I enjoyed a veggie burger and a large salad and finally gave Stella Rose a try as everyone keeps raving about it. Sadly friends I wasnâ€
t a fan
I am not a huge sweet red wine kinda girl, it tasted like sparkling grape juice.
We headed out early because I had my first LONG RUN of marathon training in the morning! Susie and I met up at my house at 6:15am and took off on a nice 16 mile rolling hill run! We honestly had the best view of the sunrise. I felt so great the whole run and even picked up my speed toward the end. We ran about a 9:15 average pace and I am pretty sure we could have even gone faster!
As soon as the run was over, I slipped into my Sunday dress and we headed to Church. Our pastor gave the best message and it was so great worshipping with everyone. After church we loaded up the car and headed over to my aunts for a little Easter celebration. I brought my go to Summer Salad, spinach, strawberries, walnut, and blue cheese. It is always a big hit!
The McCormick Family, may be the last time itâ€
s just the two of us ![]()
The annual Easter Egg hunt for adults was a lot of fun this year, as it always is!
I made sure to fill up on all kinds of yummy favorites!! I even had a little bit of Turkey ![]()
If you are new to the blog you may not know this, but I donâ€
t like cake (I know sad day). But my hubby and Uncle insisted that I have a bite of my Auntâ€
s cupcakes and before I knew it they were all over my face!
OH SWEET LORD!
We also played Bingo, cause thatâ€
s what you do on Eater right??
And yet we had one more dinner to go to!!! After we left my Auntâ€
s we headed over to my Dadâ€
s for a little dessert and a little birthday celebration for my sweet step sister Jessica. My step mom makes the best Carrot CAKE ever!!!
Now this kind of cake I LOVE!!!! I enjoyed every single little bite!
When you have four brothers, some how you decided to wrestle in the living room, become a human bench press….and…
arm wrestle with your brothers girlfriend!
I am pretty sure we are the most active/competitive family you would ever meet. We also had a pushup, squat , and plank contest!! I won them all by the way ‘![]()
What a wonderful day celebrating our Risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
I love my crazy family and anytime I get to spend a weekend with them, my heart is filled with joy!
Question: Is your family competitive? Did you have a good Easter weekend?
]]>Hey friends, sorry I have been a little MIA since Wednesday
There is so much SUMMER fun to be had. Truly this is my most favorite time of the year. The only thing missing this weekend was a little baseball, but will sacrificed for POOL time!
Friday night we celebrated Father’s day with my AMAZING grill master FATHER! I get my cooking skills from him.

Saturday morning I was up nice and early for my first SUMMER ride! Felt great to get back in the saddle.

Saturday afternoon I swung by to say hello to my friend Jess who is about to POP!! Her baby shower was so cute!!

I can’t wait to meet her BABY girl!!!

The rest of the afternoon was spent lounging/laying at the pool for Mom’s birthday! Her friend had this amazing retro pool. Something about the pool brings out the 12-year-old in me!
Later the girls got dressed up and went to downtown for some karaoke!

Much laughter was had by ALL!

Sunday we enjoyed an amazing brunch! I always order eggs benedict, I am an addict.
After brunch we hit up my cousin Celina’s graduation party!!!
We also swung bt Lens Crafters to pick out my new glasses (yes, it’s true friends I am getting glasses). Which one’s do you like better????

The rest of the evening we LOUNGED around…. Mr. B was one tired Pup!
I love having Saturday’s and Sunday’s off, but boy do I miss my Monday’s being OFF!
Question: Would you rather have Saturday and Sunday’s off or a day off during the week?
]]>It’s over 3,400 elevation raise!!
I woke up at 5:30am (sleeping in time now days) and had some coffee and PB+Toast, before I embarked on the adventure!!
I always thought people were crazy for doing this ride because it’s all up hill, but when I need to get in 3 1/2 hour bike ride and my friends were going to be doing it, I thought what the heck!
I never knew I could push myself so hard!!! The climb was so intense. I kept telling myself “push, pull, push, pull” trying to stay focused was really hard. I am pretty sure this was the most I have war sweated on a bike ride EVER!
I was so happy to see the Oak Glen sign and turn around and FLY down hill, which was actually kind of scary!!!
I ate my whole pack of shot blocks, half a cliff bar, two bottles of water and a bottle of Gatorade during the ride!! I was so hungry when I finished but not famished!
Oh and check out my new Zoot Tri-Outfit! I got it this week at REI for sale! I wanted to try it out on this ride to see if it will work and loved it!
The top has a great shelf top sports bra and two pockets on the side for easy access. The shorts are lightly padded with two pockets on the sides too!! I was afraid the shirt might ride up, but it didn’t move at all! I am going to wear it tomorrow on my long run and see how it feels
After our 3.5 hour (42) mile bike ride I rushed off to work where I ate 2 amazing meals, packed with protein!
Lunch
And dinner!
Oh and believe me I had dessert!!!! Root beer float heaven
Working Saturdays aren’t so bad when you get to enjoy friends and this view!!
Time to snuggle up with these two. How cute is this!!??
]]>Woke up at 4:45 this morning to get a 40 mile bike ride in before work!
Loved seeing the sunrise
A few things I have learned about long bike rides:
#1. Riding is not just about the ride, but it’s also about the amazing friendships that come with it!
#2. Eating breakfast together and chatting about life
#3. On long bike rides, bike shorts are a must. Your bum will love you for them
I just got these Tri shorts for my race and they worked perfect!! They are Pearl Izumai’s.
Now I just need to get a Tri-Top!
#4. Water and food is a must on a long ride. I like to take cliff bars and frozen grapes
#5. Sometimes we fall! This morning I made a right turn too short and fell straight onto my right shoulder. At first I just sat there and was in shock! Then as I got out of shock I tried to get up and slowly got back on my bike. My shoulder felt numb, but no broken bones!!! After riding for a bit I looked at my shoulder and saw this..
I am stronger for it!!!!
Back to work!
Tonight is Date Night..hmmm what should we do??
]]>While training for any triathlon one has many bags, shoes, clothes gear, and much more to think about. Being the type A super OCD person that I am, I try to always keep things organized as much as possible so that I can enjoy the little things in life and not stress over the big ones. My first project was my trunk in my car. It is where I store all of my gear while training. I like to keep it in there, so that I am ready at ALL TIMES.
One of the things that we would love to get one day is a SUV. We would love somethings that could hold our bikes, camping equipment, and you know “other” little things one day
For now we both love our Hondas. The other day I picked up these pink baskets at Big lots for $2.99 to organize all my tri-gear! They work perfect.
I have a basket for all of my cycling gear: helmet, glasses, bottles, gloves, and shoes.

A basket for my swim gear: suit, towel, goggles, workout book, and cap. Along with some Gatorade for fuel. I have learned over time that it is best to keep water and electrolyte drinks in the car at all times, just in case you forget yours at home. Just ask someone for ice and your good to go!

I also have a basket for my EMERGENCY workout clothes. I always keep a jacket, running shoes, a running outfit, and socks on hand just in case.
There is also my kickboxing bag (gloves, wraps, focus mitts) and yoga bag in the trunk too. This way no matter what workout I have for the day, I have everything set to go!
Yep, so that’s one project down only 5 million more to go!
Next up:
Garage + Laundry Room!
