I knew my body could handle the miles and the hardest part for me would be the dry heat and the flat course. I bet the locals wouldn’t say it was flat because there were just a few short and steep nasty hills, but for this California mountain runner it was FLAT! I made sure I had a great marathon playlist to keep me mentally on pace! For me music is everything in a marathon, I set up my Spotify playlist with RPMs in mind for each mile. So grateful for so many wonderful suggestions from friends!
MILES 1-6
I took off feeling really good. I had rested two days before to ensure that my legs were not tired or sore in any weird places. The weather was perfect at the beginning so I was PRAISING the Lord for that! It could have been like 80 degrees at 7am! There were only about 30-40 runners doing the full marathon, by far the smallest marathon I have ever done. There were two other girls during the first 6 miles that I pretty much ran with. I prayed for each of them to have an amazing race and finish strong. I didn’t want to try and compete with them, because I could tell they were for sure going to beat me and I just wanted to have a nice slow and easy marathon! I had to keep telling myself over and over that this was MY RACE and no one else’s. Finally they pushed ahead and it was really just me and the road for the next 6 miles.
MILES 7-13
The first 10K was over and at mile 8 I was already hitting a WALL!!! WHAT THE?! That has never happened so early in a race. I turned my music to the 8 songs that are a bit faster. My mind started telling me, “a half marathon would be fine to finish, it’s ok to just be done”. I had no one to prove anything to and I needed to show everyone that it was ok to quit. I started to believe all these things that I was thinking. I even had to use the bathroom at mile 8 (which I have never used in a marathon) but I was so hydrated I really had to pee. Once I did that, I felt 100% lighter minus a few nagging cramps that I couldn’t kick. My legs felt lighter and I quickly texted my hubby and told him to bring me some Ibuprofen at mile 13 and electrolytes. As soon as I crossed the bridge and saw my wonderful husband my heart lifted and I had a second gust of wind in my step. I took three Ibuprofen (preventative) and headed for mile 14.
MILES 14-20
The course at this point all started to be really boring. We were pretty much running the bike/runners path that I run on a regular basis. So I knew I needed to start praying and not letting my mentality crush my spirit. Thank goodness the weather at this point was still great! I started hitting some of those steep and short hills, which I enjoyed because I needed a break from the flat. I also knew that if I got to mile 18 without hitting a wall, I would and could finish! So my goal was to keep at a 9:30 pace, smile and enjoy the alone time with just God and the road. I don’t get a lot of alone time these days so I really tried to stay present and ask the Lord to speak to me in every mile. My body was great minus these weird stomach cramps. I focused on my breath cause I thought it was because I was not breathing right. I also took my time at the water stations (which there were plenty of), drank my water walked and then took off. In all my other marathons I never walked at the water stations. It was good for me mentally and caused me to SLOW DOWN and not burn out.
MILES 21-26.2
This was it! I didn’t hit my wall at mile 18!!! So I would finish and I would finish strong! At mile 21 you turn around and start heading to the finish line, I was so ready. I wasn’t hurting at all!!! Â I was actually loving this marathon. At mile 25 I cranked up the volume to my favorite finisher song, “‘Till I Collapse”. I was ready to cross that finish line with the biggest grin ever! I saw the finish line and I opened up my stride and sprinted and then I saw my sweet daughter run up to me, grab my hand and finish with me!! I had held it together so well and at this point I almost busted out in tears!! It was the best finish EVER!!!!
When I crossed the finish line my dad told me that I looked so good he thought I was going to run another one. I can honestly say that I felt incredible! I was so happy that the weather held out and it was so wonderful to see my family there to hug me and help me get myself together.
Hippity Hop Marathon General Information
The race is pretty small and this was the second one they have ever had. If you are looking for a local race that is flat and well mapped out this is your course!
Crowd Support and Course Aid
Well as far as spectators there are NONE! So if you are ok with running solo and just chilling on the road then this is your race. They had amazing aid stations almost every hour with water, GUU, and Gatorade. Also plenty of restrooms a long the course.
Bottom Line
I wish that the start time would have been about 30 minutes earlier as 7am is a little late to start a full marathon in Arizona. I love how low key the course was and very low pressure. It was my slowest marathon by 4 minutes (4:24) but I could care less! I also got first place in my age group which was kind of fun! It was such a great run and I am glad that I met my three goals. Which were to. To finish #1. Finish with a smile #2. To enjoy God’s grace in every minute of the race. #3. To be “still” and soak up the alone time!!
Here are some fun race photos for ya
t already know, I am a huge Mizuno fan! I have reviewed the Wave Rider 18â€
s, the Wave Enigma 5â€
s, and the Wave Sayonaras. Pretty much canâ€
t get enough of this shoe. I think they truly keep making them better and better.
Recently I was sent the Mizuno Wave Inspire 12â€
s and they couldnâ€
t have come at a better time! I didnâ€
t run as much as I normally do this summer. Now that the weather is getting a little bit cooler I started bringing back FRIDAY FUN RUNâ€
S! I have been running in the Wave Inspire 12â€
s for three weeks now and my legs feel amazing.
“The new Wave Inspire 12 has the lightweight support you need to farther and longer. With an improved upper that provides a soft-yet-structural fit and increased blown runner for maximum durability, this shoe provides the stability you need to stay on the road longer.â€
I need a stability shoe and I feel like every time I get the right stability the shoe is super heavy, but not these! They are light and super cushy! They have just the right about of support without the weight. It also fits softly around my toes so I feel a bit lighter while I am running. Not to mention the color is awesome! I am not a huge fan of purple, but purple with pink pretty matches everything I wear!
I love their campaign #MILESCHANGEYOU. I couldnâ€
t have said it better myself! Running is my first love and every time I lace up and hit the road I become a better version of myself! I run because I CAN, not because I have to.

Question: Whatâ€
s your favorite running shoe?
]]>
Being a runner all my life, I sometimes forget how hard it can be to start running later in life. It can be done with some fun tips and honestly one of the biggest things it takes more than shoes or a Garmin is discipline. Face it, if it was easy every one would do it!
t chafe “down there.†Or maybe even a running skirt, I love my LuLu running skirt! If you don’t where spandex, then make sure to BODY GLIDE UP!Question: What are some your tips for beginner runners?
]]>Well it is safe to say that my pull-up challenge to FACE MY FITNESS FEAR is kicking my butt! I have been doing all kinds of rows, lat work, push-up and so much more. I love that I am mixing this in with the Summer Shred, it truly is kicking my bootie! If you missed the sign up to get into the Summer Shred in May, donâ€
t worry you can join us in JUNE! Sign ups start on Monday May 19th.
Last week I received a new pair of Reebok ONE Cushion Series Running Shoes, just in time for all the crazy GPP workouts I am doing. I am still doing some running in between as well so I was excited that these were nice and cushion filled! See all three colors on the side of the shoe? They equal three levels of cushion!
The soles of the ONE Cushion shoes have built-in zones: a three-foam midsole, a decoupled outsole, and a stable lateral arch area.
Unsure about all this terminology? Check out this article about running shoe terms . It’s a very interesting read!
Isnâ€
t the color awesome?! I am kinda in love with bright neon right now. I wore them on my first 6 mile run since the Boston Marathon and I felt like I was floating on AIR. These may be my favorite Reebok shoes! I like lighter shoes for my quick tempo or track workouts! I have a high arch so I need a lot of support! I like that they are also light, which is great for my cross training as well. (You know like doing BOX JUMPS and BURPEES!)
As well as walking around Disneyland all day. ![]()

Question: Do you wear Reeboks? If so what kind?
]]>I had the awesome opportunity (and perfect timing with my marathon training) to review some new headphones that had been sent to me by Koss Fit, which were designed by women, for women. In fact, Olympic swimming gold medalist Dara Torres helped with their design!

I am a HUGE music lover while working out, so these bad boys have already gotten a lot of use out of them! Let me break down the basics:
The FitClips

The FitClips feature and in-ear ported design, allowing the elements to rest comfortably in the ear. You are given three different ear cushion options in the box – so you can determine which fit is perfect for you, love! The FitClips are a flexible material that go around the ear. Available in five awesome colors, the clips feature a sweat-resistant coating for an active lifestyle and durability.
I am not a huge fan of most earphones that go around your ears, but there are light and I honestly never even noticed they were on!
Koss FitBuds

The FitBuds were designed 33% smaller than any other ear buds so that theyâ€
d actually fit our female ears. They are also sweat resistant and come with 3 different sizes of ear cushions to be more customizable for all of us ladies. You have to make sure that you pick the right size to stick in your ear, otherwise they will fall out! These kind of earbuds are my favorite and honestly the sound quality is pretty darn amazing as well. There are the earbuds I will be wearing in my marathon this weekend!

And if you would love to purchase (which I know you want to) they sale at a reasonable price of 29.99 for the NEW YEAR! You can find them at places like Sears, Best Buy, Walgreens and Kmart. Worth every penny!
Well my bags are packed friends and I am as ready as I will ever be for my MARATHON on SUNDAY!
Did my last small slow run this morning with RJ

Disclaimer: KossFit provided me with the FitBuds, FitClips, and compensation for an honest review, but I was not pressured to write a positive review and all opinions expressed in todayâ€
s post are mine alone.
Friday, my sweet friend Heather and I left my house around 10am to road trip it out to Vegas! Originally the Hubby and RJ were going to come out with me, but after some thought, we thought it best that they hang back and make it out for my next event!
When we arrived at the Westin Lake Las Vegas, we were in awe of the beautiful mountains and scenic view! I never knew there was this side of Vegas!
First things first! We went to check in and get my bib number and hit up the Expo!
The expo was very small, but had some really cute women specific booths. I really like the Tough Chik booth and ended up buying my first visor!
At 4pm there was a great chat about the course. It was so helpful to hear from the race coordinator about what to expect. When I heard that we would be doing two laps of everything, I almost thought about switching to the Sprint. ![]()
Then we headed up to our room! I have to say this may be the best view from any Westin Hotel I have EVER visited!
After we settled into our room, we took the hotel shuttle to a few of the restaurants and shops just a few miles down the road. It was so nice not to have to worry about driving or getting lost and be able to have someone to pick us up from the hotel and bring us back. We decided on a local Italian Restaurant called Luna Rossa. Honestly, it was some of the worst service I have ever had so I wouldnâ€
t recommend going there, but the food was pretty good. I ordered the balsamic salmon with mixed veggies and potatoes. Salmon is always my GO-TO pre-race meal if I can find it!
Then we went back to our rooms to settle into our HEAVENLY beds and call it an early night. I laid out all my gear so at 5am I wouldnâ€
t have to think much. I loved that we were staying at the Westin because all I had to do was walk downstairs and suit up!
At 5am my alarm went off and I slowly moved toward the coffee maker, made a cup of joe and enjoyed a whole wheat egg muffin with almond butter and banana.
At first I went downstairs to the transition area and put all my gear out! I had one major fail when I forgot to unhook the Velcro on my cycling shoes for an easy transition, but everything else was fine. I laid my towel down and put everything I needed on top. I had my running shoes, helmet with gloves and sunglasses inside, long sleeve shirt in case it was freezing for the bike ride and finally my bib number, which I had on a belt.
Then I went back up to my room (a one minute walk) to put on my awesome Aqua Sphere wet suit! I was so excited when they sent this to me to try out and a little nervous that it might not fit., but if fit perfectly! It was super easy to put on and throughout the swim I felt light and WARM! Thank goodness because the water was 62 degrees!
At 6:15am, I was back at the transition area and walked to the start line.
The race started at 6:40 on the dot! I loved that we got to watch the sunrise. A sunrise swim is my favorite! I jumped in a little before the start to warm up. It always helps if I do a couple strokes before the race. It helps me get rid of some of the nervousness.
I have done two sprint Triâ€
s and a Half Iron Man Tri, but this was my first Olympic Tri and my first race at Iron Girl Lake Las Vegas as well so I had no idea what to shoot for as far as time!
Then we were OFF! Here is the thing that is mentally hard about this course. We had to do everything twice for the Olympic distance. For the swim, we swam out to the red buoy, came out of the water, ran across the start line and jumped back into the water to do it again. Getting out of the water was mentally challenging. It was easy to think I was done, but I had to do the lap again. Same with the bike and run. The good thing was that you knew what was coming and how to pace yourself.
My swim was ok and felt pretty good. When I jumped out the water, I had to run quite a distance to the transition area on pavement and so my first transition time was SLOW because my hands were so cold that I had a hard time getting my suit off and putting on my socks and gloves. But when I finally got everything on, I ran with my bike and took off up the SUPER STEEP FIRST HILL!
Swim: 33:08
Transition #1: 04:06
Bike: 1:34:30
The first 8 miles of the bike were all uphill. I didnâ€
t have a watch (My battery died. It’s a long story.), but I used my MapMyRun App on my iPhone. I tried to stay between a 10-11MPH pace up the hills and 15-18MPH on the flat parts. Coming down the hills is where I hoped to pick up some time! I was going 30MPH at one point and had to put on the brakes a little. Once again when we got back to the transition area, we had to take off back up the hill for LAP #2! The best part was that the finish was all downhill. I liked the bike course (hills and all), but I just wasnâ€
t as fast as I hope to be on the bike. I saw some beautiful views and didn’t have any flat tires, so all was good!
Transition #2: MUCH faster, 2:29!
Run: 50:46
Oh how I love jumping off my bike and hitting the pavement! Running is my event! My transition was a lot faster this time because all I had to do was throw on my shoes, bib number, visor and go! The first two miles, once again, were straight uphill! My feet were so NUMB! It took them some time to come to life, but when they did, I took stride as fast as I could without killing myself. Mile 3 was downhill and then we had to do it all again. Some of the hills were so steep that women were walking, but I kept telling myself one baby step in front of the other. No matter how slow I was going, I was running! I really hated that I didnâ€
t have a watch to tell me my pace, but at the same time it was kind of nice just to run!
The last two miles I prayed and enjoyed every minute of the race. No matter what my time was I was so happy that I had the health to do the race! There are not a lot of spectators throughout the entire course, but when I came in to the finish there were a ton of people screaming and cheering. When I saw my friend Heather, I sprinted, threw my hands up and crossed the finish line with a smile!
Finish time: 3:04:59, 24th overall and 5th in my age division! Not bad for my first Olympic!
GEAR:
I loved my Saucony Guide 7â€
s and I felt like I was running on AIR! They come out in November folks! I really like the color too. I am kind of obsessed with teal blue and pink these days. I also really liked my Danskin Tri-Suit that a friend gave me! I loved the one piece for a short Tri. I did wear a sports bra under it but didnâ€
t chafe at all! I also wore my new Oakleyâ€
s and although this pair is super cute, I wasnâ€
t a fan of them for racing. I need a lighter pair for sure!
FEED ME!!!! After the race, I quickly showered and headed to the STRIP in Vegas for lunch! I was craving some yummy tacos, margaritas and guacamole! We went to the Fashion Mall and found El Segundo Sol! Best Margs and Mahi Mahi tacos EVER!
The homemade GUAC was to die for!
The rest of the day was spent shopping! The Fashion Mall is HUGE!
For dinner we got all dressed up to hit up town, but then ended up just going to the Westin hotel restaurant, eating dinner and bringing wine and dessert back to our rooms! We enjoyed being in our yoga pants and watching the World Series a little more than dancing the night away.
It was such an amazing weekend and I was so blessed to have had the support of a dear friend! Next year I must get a group of girls together to do this race with me! Iron Girl is so organized and everyone on the course was encouraging and friendly! I can not wait to do another!
Thanks Iron Girl for the opportunity to be a part of this amazing TRI!
Also, thank you Westin for letting me experience your hotel as an athlete. I may never choose any another hotel to stay at again.
And finally, thank you to Juice It Up for the fuel to get me to and from Vegas!

t wait, as my last pair of Mizunoâ€
s are done for.
Just a couple weeks ago, Mizuno introduced the Wave Sayonara, their lightest everyday training shoe yet!! I love Mizunoâ€
s I have worn them for this past year for running and they are so comfortable. Love that they are using the hashtag EVERYDAY fast, because I do feel faster wearing them! I also love that they are HOT PINK, you know me and my love of all things pink ![]()
“The Sayonara is low the ground, flexible, and provides an enhanced foam midsole to ensure proper cushioning. This need for speed shoe is built so runners experience a light, smooth, comfortable, and responsive “ride†without the extra bulk and weight. Through this shoe, Mizuno encourages you to “wave goodbye to slow and say hello to more energized, mezamashii running.â€
What is Mezamashii Running?
Mizuno is helping runners everywhere achieve euphoric, brilliant running. Theyâ€
re calling this The Mezamashii Project. Have you heard of this, itâ€
s pretty AWESOME!
“You donâ€
t let the distance bother you. You donâ€
t let the time bother you. You get out there and you just lose yourself.â€
Key Features:
• Versatile and performance neutral with “as-needed†support elements • U4ic midsole delivers optimal shock attenuation, durability, and superior ride that is 30% lighter than AP+ • U4ic is innovatively light and well cushioned
• G3 Sole features lightweight, superior traction
• Mizuno Wave Technology provides the perfect balance of lightweight cushioning and stability
• Blown rubber sole for optimal flexibility
My Review:
I seriously wish you could feel how light these shoes are, but not too light. They are not like the typical minimalist shoe. They have a little more support and you do feel like your running on air! So far I have taken them on two 10k runs and they supported me the whole way through!
I think these would be the perfect running shoe for 1-8 mile runs, especially your speed and temp workouts! They do fit a little bigger, which is good for wiggle room and giving your feet a good amount of breathing space.

Question: Whatâ€
s your favorite running shoe?
While training for any triathlon one has many bags, shoes, clothes gear, and much more to think about. Being the type A super OCD person that I am, I try to always keep things organized as much as possible so that I can enjoy the little things in life and not stress over the big ones. My first project was my trunk in my car. It is where I store all of my gear while training. I like to keep it in there, so that I am ready at ALL TIMES.
One of the things that we would love to get one day is a SUV. We would love somethings that could hold our bikes, camping equipment, and you know “other” little things one day
For now we both love our Hondas. The other day I picked up these pink baskets at Big lots for $2.99 to organize all my tri-gear! They work perfect.
I have a basket for all of my cycling gear: helmet, glasses, bottles, gloves, and shoes.

A basket for my swim gear: suit, towel, goggles, workout book, and cap. Along with some Gatorade for fuel. I have learned over time that it is best to keep water and electrolyte drinks in the car at all times, just in case you forget yours at home. Just ask someone for ice and your good to go!

I also have a basket for my EMERGENCY workout clothes. I always keep a jacket, running shoes, a running outfit, and socks on hand just in case.
There is also my kickboxing bag (gloves, wraps, focus mitts) and yoga bag in the trunk too. This way no matter what workout I have for the day, I have everything set to go!
Yep, so that’s one project down only 5 million more to go!

Question: What are some your tips for beginner runners?
]]>
I was getting those pre-race butterflies, which is when I think I have to go to bathroom but I really don’t. I wasn’t as nervous when I finally got up to the starting line. I tried to get up to the front as much as possible seeing that I wasn’t wearing a time chip. The race started at 8am sharp and I took off running. The start of the race is always interesting I am always more worried about being tripped then anything else. When I finally broke free from the pack I was running a good 7 minute tempo, trying to stay at a steady pace. The run was nice not too many hills, mostly flat. My biggest problem was NO MUSIC. I swear by my Ipod! I hate hearing myself breath and my feet hit the ground. I know that hearing your body is better for you, because it helps you keep better rhythm, but I disagree. I think that my music pumps me up and gets me going fast. Well I did fine without it and ran a 19:10 5k.
Pre Race Pic

When I hit the transition point I threw on my helmet and took off on my bike. This is always the hard part for me. Not that cycling in itself is difficult for me, it’s just the speed part. I took off and felt great. Legs were pumping but I was trying to pace myself because I new I had 11 miles and a swim to go. As I was going up this hill a couple cyclist started to pass me, and I got mad! I knew I had killed those guys on the run, they should still be back there. Well this happened more then once, no girls passed me just a bunch of MEN. I started feeling very harsh toward men cyclists, because I knew I was in just as good of shape as they were yet they were taking ME! I even at one point was following in another guys petal steps and he was soaring passed me in his 3,000 dollar bike! This is where I had to take deep breaths in and remind myself that this was MY race, they have been doing this longer. So I speed up passed a couple of guys myself, and came into the last transition area.
I threw off my shirt, cycling skirt, shoes, and Garmin and booked it into the pool. My legs felt like jello but I used my arms to run and sprinted hard. I jumped into the heated pool(even though I was burning hot) and quickly realized I should have taken my socks off! I pushed hard even though my body felt so heavy. I played water polo in high school, but I always hated swimming. I did ok in the swim seeing as it was not too long. Made it to the finish shoot, and grabbed HUBBY! I was done, and mad. I know that I didn’t do too bad, I was just beating up myself for not being able to beet some of those cyclists. I am a runner, but I know I can get better at cycling I just need to get out there and practice. Seeing that, that was only my second time riding sense my last Tri, I knew I was doing pretty good.
I love my face expressions rrrrr!!!!
We waited around for about two hours for the results, I was famished. I was not smart, I forgot to bring something to munch on for after the race, and my Heed got lost on the bike ride. We finally got the results and I got second in my age division, with a time of 1:05. I wasn’t too proud of that time because my last sprint Tri my time was 1:03. I am glad I did get out there but I want to be FASTER. I need to start cycling more, and I am getting a better road bike for sure!!!!! I am just glad I made it out, and finished.

I just got done taking a 2.5hour nap(which I have never done), so I must have been exhausted when I woke up I was starved so I had a bowl of banana,pb, and Natures Path Pb granola ( very yummy stuff). I had a glass of milk with it, and because I haven’t drinking cows milk in a long time, the tummy is hurting:(

I am going to go rest for the evening, I am glad I have no plans for tonight again, so I can recuperate! I was going to go to a kettle bell class but I think I need to listen to my body. Thanks fo all of the encouragement!!!!!
Hope you all had a fabulous weekend:)
