So we will be doing a lot of body weight exercises as well as using free weights. You can do these workouts at home or at the gym. It will be a combination of high intensity intervals and strength training. Like always my workouts are quick and efficient! None of this hour long workout stuff. You will be done in less than 40 minutes and burning fat like crazy!

Most importantly my main goal for you all is to be Healthy and WHOLE in mind, body and soul. This Shred I will be adding in my Soul Shred devotionals. Encouraging you to spend some time feeding your soul before your day starts.

Like always we will have an awesome Facebook Group where we can cheer each other on. It is so important to find like minded friends that are on the same fitness journey! There is nothing better than the Summer Shred TRIBE! You will have to be part of the Facebook group to see live videos + meal inspirations daily.

Hippity Hop Marathon Race Recap https://www.bobbimccormick.com/hippity-hop-marathon-race-recap-playlist/ https://www.bobbimccormick.com/hippity-hop-marathon-race-recap-playlist/#comments Wed, 07 Jun 2017 21:53:07 +0000 http://www.bobbimccormick.com/?p=35686 I am still sitting an awe that I ran my 13th marathon !! Crazy right?! My longest run was 14 miles and I only got in about three long runs over 9 miles. I did clean up my eating a ton with the 24 Day Challenge, did CycleBar at least twice a week, lifted three times a week and ran a day or two during the week. So I can confidently say that this life time runner was FIT for the race!

Screen Shot 2017-04-22 at 5.00.55 PM

I knew my body could handle the miles and the hardest part for me would be the dry heat and the flat course. I bet the locals wouldn’t say it was flat because there were just a few short and steep nasty hills, but for this California mountain runner it was FLAT! I made sure I had a great marathon playlist to keep me mentally on pace! For me music is everything in a marathon, I set up my Spotify playlist with RPMs in mind for each mile. So grateful for so many wonderful suggestions from friends!

MILES 1-6

I took off feeling really good. I had rested two days before to ensure that my legs were not tired or sore in any weird places. The weather was perfect at the beginning so I was PRAISING the Lord for that! It could have been like 80 degrees at 7am! There were only about 30-40 runners doing the full marathon, by far the smallest marathon I have ever done. There were two other girls during the first 6 miles that I pretty much ran with. I prayed for each of them to have an amazing race and finish strong. I didn’t want to try and compete with them, because I could tell they were for sure going to beat me and I just wanted to have a nice slow and easy marathon! I had to keep telling myself over and over that this was MY RACE and no one else’s. Finally they pushed ahead and it was really just me and the road for the next 6 miles.

MILES 7-13

The first 10K was over and at mile 8 I was already hitting a WALL!!! WHAT THE?! That has never happened so early in a race. I turned my music to the 8 songs that are a bit faster. My mind started telling me, “a half marathon would be fine to finish, it’s ok to just be done”. I had no one to prove anything to and I needed to show everyone that it was ok to quit. I started to believe all these things that I was thinking. I even had to use the bathroom at mile 8 (which I have never used in a marathon) but I was so hydrated I really had to pee. Once I did that, I felt 100% lighter minus a few nagging cramps that I couldn’t kick. My legs felt lighter and I quickly texted my hubby and told him to bring me some Ibuprofen at mile 13 and electrolytes. As soon as I crossed the bridge and saw my wonderful husband my heart lifted and I had a second gust of wind in my step. I took three Ibuprofen (preventative) and headed for mile 14.

MILES 14-20

The course at this point all started to be really boring. We were pretty much running the bike/runners path that I run on a regular basis. So I knew I needed to start praying and not letting my mentality crush my spirit. Thank goodness the weather at this point was still great! I started hitting some of those steep and short hills, which I enjoyed because I needed a break from the flat. I also knew that if I got to mile 18 without hitting a wall, I would and could finish! So my goal was to keep at a 9:30 pace, smile and enjoy the alone time with just God and the road. I don’t get a lot of alone time these days so I really tried to stay present and ask the Lord to speak to me in every mile. My body was great minus these weird stomach cramps. I focused on my breath cause I thought it was because I was not breathing right. I also took my time at the water stations (which there were plenty of), drank my water walked and then took off. In all my other marathons I never walked at the water stations. It was good for me mentally and caused me to SLOW DOWN and not burn out.

MILES 21-26.2

This was it! I didn’t hit my wall at mile 18!!! So I would finish and I would finish strong! At mile 21 you turn around and start heading to the finish line, I was so ready. I wasn’t hurting at all!!!  I was actually loving this marathon. At mile 25 I cranked up the volume to my favorite finisher song, “‘Till I Collapse”. I was ready to cross that finish line with the biggest grin ever! I saw the finish line and I opened up my stride and sprinted and then I saw my sweet daughter run up to me, grab my hand and finish with me!! I had held it together so well and at this point I almost busted out in tears!! It was the best finish EVER!!!!

Screen Shot 2017-04-22 at 5.00.40 PMFINSH LINE

When I crossed the finish line my dad told me that I looked so good he thought I was going to run another one. I can honestly say that I felt incredible! I was so happy that the weather held out and it was so wonderful to see my family there to hug me and help me get myself together.

Hippity Hop Marathon General Information

The race is pretty small and this was the second one they have ever had. If you are looking for a local race that is flat and well mapped out this is your course!

Crowd Support and Course Aid

Well as far as spectators there are NONE! So if you are ok with running solo and just chilling on the road then this is your race. They had amazing aid stations almost every hour with water, GUU, and Gatorade. Also plenty of restrooms a long the course.

Bottom Line

I wish that the start time would have been about 30 minutes earlier as 7am is a little late to start a full marathon in Arizona. I love how low key the course was and very low pressure. It was my slowest marathon by 4 minutes (4:24) but I could care less! I also got first place in my age group which was kind of fun! It was such a great run and I am glad that I met my three goals. Which were to. To finish #1. Finish with a smile #2. To enjoy God’s grace in every minute of the race. #3. To be “still” and soak up the alone time!!

Here are some fun race photos for ya 🙂

First Week of the 21 Day Fix {NHS Fitness} https://www.bobbimccormick.com/first-week-of-the-21-day-fix/ https://www.bobbimccormick.com/first-week-of-the-21-day-fix/#comments Wed, 21 Oct 2015 20:10:35 +0000 http://www.bobbimccormick.com/?p=35191 Hi Friends!

It is super busy around here, getting ready for our 3rd Refresh Summit in less than two weeks! I can’t not wait to head out to Tennessee and squeeze so many of my favorite people. I also can’t wait to be in a state that actually is enjoying FALL! I mean, I am enjoying it over here…well we Southern California’s are pretending to.

On Sunday I finished my very first week of the 21 Day Fix and  I LOVED LOVED LOVED it! Seriously one of the simplest plans I have ever followed, it reminds me a lot of my Shred’s (I think she copied me..ok not really). But I am truly LOVING IT!

EATS

The key to this plan is MEAL PREP as really any clean eating lifestyle is. You have a container for your fats, proteins, carbs, fruits, vegetables, and dressing/seeds. You also get tsps of nut butters and oils.

Screen Shot 2015-10-19 at 2.50.27 PM

My plan

  • 3 Green—Vegetables
  • 2 Purple—Fruit
  • 4 Red—Protein
  • 2 Yellow—Carbohydrates
  • 1 Blue—Healthy Fats and Cheese
  • Orange (2)—Seeds and Oils

I have been using the 21 Day Fix App (free) and it has helped me stay on track! I also found this great print out that is great for planning our meals out for the week. Oh yes, hubby is doing this with me!

Screen Shot 2015-10-19 at 2.41.38 PM

WORKOUTS

Included with this program is a 30-minute workout for each day (JUST 30 minutes friends) of the week and the only additional items you need are dumbbells or resistance bands and a yoga mat. If you order the program through a Beachbody Coach (UM…ME)  you also receive a Bonus Workout called Plyo Fix. There is a moderator in every workout, so you can either follow her if you are new to fitness or you always have the option of following the group for as long as you can and then switching to the modified move if you begin to get tired. I love this because it offers lots of room for growth and lets face it, not every workout is our best.

Screen Shot 2015-10-19 at 2.42.39 PM

What my week look’s like:

Mondays Total Body
Tuesdays TRX
Wednesdays SPIN
Thursdays Upper Body
Fridays RUN
Saturday Dirty 3o or Ride my bike
Sunday’s REST or YOGA!

Screen Shot 2015-10-19 at 2.45.20 PM

WEIGH IN

I weighed in at 3 pounds less this week and lost 1 inch on my waist,  0 inches in my hips, 1/2 an inch on my arm and .5 inches in each thigh! I am not focusing on the scale, more on how my jeans and clothes fit and how I feel on the inside and man am I feeling like a million bucks! Hubby lost 4 pounds!

Screen Shot 2015-10-19 at 2.41.59 PM

WEEKLY THOUGHTS

I love how this program is something I can see myself doing again and again! The balance is my favorite part and it’s really helped me to watch my portions without feeling deprived. The workouts are realistic, I am all about short efficient workouts that work! I did have a some wine over the weekend, but nothing too overboard and was a lot more mindful about snacking.

I leave for Tennessee on Tuesday and plan to finish out well, I want to see how this can be a lifestyle and I love watching the ladies in my challenge group make some pretty amazing lifestyle changes that is bringing them happiness and joy!

Screen Shot 2015-10-21 at 1.05.54 PM

If you are interested in all in the program you can shoot me an email or head over to my website.

Question: What is the hardest part about eating healthy for you?

Abs + Apps Launch Party {Recap} https://www.bobbimccormick.com/abs-apps-launch-party-recap/ https://www.bobbimccormick.com/abs-apps-launch-party-recap/#comments Mon, 17 Aug 2015 20:58:02 +0000 http://www.bobbimccormick.com/?p=35009 u-bar-class-e1439504859155

Last week I had the pleasure of attending my friend Whitney’s iPhone App launch party! She partnered up with the beautiful Kodi Kitchen, the creator of Best U Studio for her super fun Abs + Apps Launch Party in West HollyWood at the Naked Princess! I have always wanted to try a U Barre class, so naturally when I got the invitation I had to call my bestie who is a ballet instructor and invite her to join me! I wasn’t about to make a fool of myself without her 😉

champagne

u-workout-melissa  u-workout-2

Kodi led us in a rocking U Barre class with 8, 10, or 12 pound U Barres. If you have never felt a U Barre, they have the same texture as a kettle bell and now she even has ones that come in a gold finish..fancy…fancy! It was a lot hard than I was anticipating!

IMG_7258

All of us ladies got to wear a Fabletics outfit! I have been dying to try out an outfit from them for a while now! If you haven’t heard, Fabletics is the super cute and affordable activewear line by Kate Hudson! I loved the back of my tank top and it fit quite comfortably. I think I should have gotten a small as it was a little looser than I am used to.

IMG_7227

Danielle and I were both super sore from the workout the next day! Having to hold the U Barre the whole time while doing squats, lunges, abs and much more kept our arms and abs contracted the WHOLE TIME! The workout is a fusion of cardio, barre, pilates, and ballet moves, using the patented weighted U Barre to get those strong, toned arms!

IMG_7239

After the class we enjoyed some of Whitney’s most popular recipes on her blog: Watermelon Caprese Salad,Skinny Chicken Salad Bites, and No-Bake Chocolate Truffles.

IMG_7243 IMG_7244 IMG_7246

As well as some refreshing Health-Ade Kombucha  and chardonnay and champagne from One Hope Wine. I never would have thought of combining Kombuch with wine, what a great idea!

IMG_7253

Danielle and I had such a great time! Thank you Whitney for the wonderful invite!

IMG_7250

Question: Have you tried a U Barre class or any Barre class? I am excited because we have a Barre workshop at the Refresh Summit this year!!!

Officially {Zumba} Certified https://www.bobbimccormick.com/officially-zumba-certified/ https://www.bobbimccormick.com/officially-zumba-certified/#comments Mon, 20 Jul 2015 22:02:28 +0000 http://www.bobbimccormick.com/?p=34741 Never in a million years would I think that I would EVER get a Zumba certification, seriously NEVER! As of this past Wednesday, I am officially certified to teach! Crazy right?! Ok, so let’s back up to wear this all even started.

IMG_4368

This past Spring a dear friend of mine asked me to teach a fun glow in the dark dance party (sorta like Zumba more hip hop) at camp on Monday nights over the entire summer. I was like, what me?! No way, I don’t really know how to dance and although I love taking Zumba on occasion, I don’t think I am the person who should be leading on stage! But I do love teaching all kinds of fitness classes, so I courageously said YES! So fast forward I am four weeks in to teaching and I love leading the class every Monday night and I actually really look forward to it more than I ever thought I would. So when I was offered the chance to get ZUMBA certified for FREE from the Blogfest folks at the Idea Conference (post to come more about the entire conference this week) I was ALL OVER IT!

IMG_4321

Wednesday came and I was a bit nervous, didn’t really know what to expect out of a Zumba training. Would we be dancing for eight hours straight? I had know idea, but I knew it would be fun no matter what. When I got to the training I immediately connected with a few other bloggers that were there and we were all pretty excited about the day ahead.

We started the class with a one hour Zumba class led by master trainer Marcie Benvavideszes, who is now my new hero!! Not only was she a great instructor, but she also led our entire training and kept us all focused and inspired.

IMG_4354

IMG_4327

Here are just some fun facts that I learned about Zumba’s history that I never knew before:

  • Zumba was created by Alberto “Beto” Perez, an aerobics instructor in Cali, Colombia, when he forgot his workout music for a class. He improvised with some salsa and merengue tapes he happened to have in his backpack, and the class was an instant hit!
  •  Zumba has at 70% music from all around the world, so that folks are introduced to different rhythms that are not in American music: including cumbia, salsa, merengue, mambo, flamenco, chachacha, reggaeton, soca, samba, belly dancing, bhangra, hip hop, axé music, and tango.
  • Always follow the feet in Zumba, because they are super simple. When we add in the arms and the flavor it looks more difficult than it really is.
  • Zumba can burn anywhere up to 400-1000 calories in an hour (not 100% sure about this one, but I was a sweaty mess).
  •  Zumba they like to say that it is, “disguised exercises”.
  • The term “Zumba” is derived from a Colombian word meaning “to move fast while having fun” or “buzz like a bee”.

IMG_4338

(moving my tushy or trying to 😉 )

IMG_4333

It was the most fun certification I have received by a long shot! I am not sure you can beat a certification that you get to dance in the whole time. I am going to start going to a lot of the Zumba classes at my gym to get more familiar with the teaching styles and then hopefully begin teaching in a couple months! I am excited to add some Zumba to my life!

Question: Have you ever taken a Zumba class?

I feel like it has been forever since I shared a fun WORKOUT with you all! Well I have a good one for you that I KNOW it will kick your BUTTS! I love HIIT (high intensity interval training) that are quick, but do the job. This one has been one of my favorite lately! I know it says box jumps, but if you need to modify to step ups GO AHEAD! I burnt over 200 calories in this one and I was a dripping hot mess.

20minuteworkout

I am currently doing Ashely Horner’s Pipehitter mixed with some TRX and bike rides here and there. Ashley has been kicking my butt! I am going to do a full review of her Pipehitter program after I finish. There are for sure some pro’s and con’s. I can’t wait to share.

Question: Do you like HITT workouts?

It’s been a super fun week of celebrating, getting the house back in order after RJ’s first birthday party (post coming soon), a five day camping trip and family in town. Loved celebrating, but feels good to be back to routine (a little).

1. The Blog, what’s next?

As you can see there has been some fun new changes to the blog, new header, background, but this is only the beginning. It’s time to mix things up a bit, so you will be seeing a LOT more changes in the future.

2. WHOLE 30 Update:

I am still doing it, but I had a little break on Monday! I had a Mai Tai and some treats at Disneyland. The Whole 30 says if you get off then you have to start all over again, well I am not following that. Hey I did do the ‘Whole 15,’ that should count for something right?

Gonna stay strong until the 26th. I can not wait to share my full review of the entire plan.

3 At-Home Workout!

I miss sharing workouts with you all. Don’t worry they are coming back and I am getting super excited about the NHS Holiday Shred 2014 coming up.

Propel’s challenge for me this month was to share an at-home workout with all of you. I know we all get super busy and sometimes can’t make it to the gym, but that’s when we use our bodies as workout equipment and get in 30 minutes of pure sweat.

Here is a workout I have created for you all to get your heart rate up and one heck of a good burn!

propelathomeworkout

#4. Crock Pot Meal Exchange:

We had another round of crock pot meal exchanges! This time there was a total 11 of us.

A lot of you have asked how this works and it’s super simple. Each person makes 11 (or however many people you have) of the same meal and puts it in a freezer bag. This can be anything from a soup, chicken tacos, meatballs and spaghetti (include the spaghetti separate). You just want to make it super simple for everyone to take out of the freezer stick in the crock pot.

I made cilantro lime chicken for everyone and then when we all got to my friends house, we walked around and grabbed one of each meal. So now we had 11 different meals to try out and have on hand to make dinner EASY! We do healthier crock pot meals and it works out perfect! Make sure to include the recipeIMG_9470

#5. 3D Mascara:

I finally gave it a try! An instagram follower (AmyClink) sent me some Amy Clinkenbeard’s Younique Virtual Party (Mascara) to try out and now my mind is BLOWN away!

It’s an incredible mascara that is all natural, made from green tea leaves with tons of beneficial ingredients in it!

It contains a gel that applies like mascara. You apply the green tea fibers to extend you lashes then the gel again to seal in the fibers. It lasts all day and washes off with your regular face soap! I am hooked!!!

Workout With a Friend: CrossFit Completed {Propel} https://www.bobbimccormick.com/workout-with-a-friend-crossfit-completed/ https://www.bobbimccormick.com/workout-with-a-friend-crossfit-completed/#comments Mon, 30 Jun 2014 23:54:02 +0000 http://www.bobbimccormick.com/?p=33302 Happy Monday!

Hope that you all had an amazing weekend. We are enjoying a week of ‘un-plugging’ up at Forest Home. It’s fun to be a family of 3 this year.

Well I did it! I finally tried out CrossFit at a real BOX. Like I said before, my friend Amy owns a local gym in town and invited me to come workout with her for a week. That week has came and gone and boy did I get my butt kicked!

I have done very similar type workouts because GPP is very much like CrossFit, but it still was a bit different. I really liked her gym, everyone was SUPER SUPER friendly and welcoming. I always was afraid to step into a BOX because I felt intimidated even though I’m not in the worst shape in the world. I am super competitive and I just didn’t want to look like the ‘weakest link’. Well thank goodness I didn’t feel like that at ALL!!!

nHerShoes - CrossFit

I loved how Amy really broke down the fundamentals and basics with me, even though I am an experienced athlete. She treated me like a newbie, which was great! There are several moves that I’ve been wanting to get help with, like the Overhead Squat, Back Squat and Power Cleans. All these things we do in GPP, but with a lot less weight.

We had fun playing around on the bars and learning some new fun pull-ups…

I, of course, stayed hydrated and made sure to listen to my body when I needed breaks.

The first day was probably the hardest WOD. It was 40 minutes long and KILLER! We did Rows, Kettlebell Swings, Double Unders and Planks with Rings. I was a dripping mess!

So the breakdown of a class goes a little bit like this:
– Warm Up
– Skill
– Then the WOD

And usually just the skill in itself was a pretty crazy workout.

So the big question is… “Am I going to start doing CrossFit?

Although I did love it and I plan to come visit on occasion, I won’t be signing up soon. I love kickboxing, GPP, running and biking a little too much to commit to that kind of gym membership. Also lifting super heavy isn’t my “crazy.” Running 26.2 miles or riding my bike for 4 hours is my “crazy.”

Everyone has their things that drives and pushes them to be “their best possible,” and so do it! BE TRUE TO YOU!

Alright… I have met two amazing challenges with Propel so far! I can’t wait for July’s Challenge because you are all going to be invited and I have an amazing PROPEL GIVEAWAY to give a couple of winners!

Questions: Have you tried CrossFit? If you haven’t, what has been holding you back?

P.S. Only 4 more days to sign up for the last Summer Shred of the Summer! – SIGN UP HERE

Workout With a Friend: CrossFit {Propel} https://www.bobbimccormick.com/workout-with-a-friend-cross-fit/ https://www.bobbimccormick.com/workout-with-a-friend-cross-fit/#comments Tue, 03 Jun 2014 14:31:47 +0000 http://www.bobbimccormick.com/?p=32999 Well I met my awesome Propel Fit May Fitness Fear Challenge! So what’s next? Well they have challenged me to try one of my friend’s favorite workouts or bring them along to mine! Well, what the heck, why not both?! I have a lot of friends that I would love to invite over to put them through one of my crazy workouts and I guess I could try a friend’s workout.

So I have a friend who owns a CrossFit gym here in town and she been asking me to come check it out. (Yep, it’s true. I have never been to a CrossFit BOX). I have done some crossfit workouts, but just haven’t stepped into a gym. What a great chance to finally do it!!! I love trying out new workouts with friends and having fun doing it! Well, let’s hope it’s fun!

I want to challenge you all to get out and try a new workout with a friend or, hey, bring a friend along for one of your favorite workouts! What do you say?

Pull-Up Progress + Reebok ONE Cushion Shoes {Review} https://www.bobbimccormick.com/pull-up-progress-reebok-one-cushion-shoes/ https://www.bobbimccormick.com/pull-up-progress-reebok-one-cushion-shoes/#comments Tue, 13 May 2014 22:43:56 +0000 http://www.bobbimccormick.com/?p=32875 The following post is sponsored by FitFluential LLC on behalf of Reebok. As always, opinions are my own.

Well it is safe to say that my pull-up challenge to FACE MY FITNESS FEAR is kicking my butt! I have been doing all kinds of rows, lat work, push-up and so much more. I love that I am mixing this in with the Summer Shred, it truly is kicking my bootie! If you missed the sign up to get into the Summer Shred in May, don’t worry you can join us in JUNE! Sign ups start on Monday May 19th.

Last week I received a new pair of Reebok ONE Cushion Series Running Shoes, just in time for all the crazy GPP workouts I am doing. I am still doing some running in between as well so I was excited that these were nice and cushion filled! See all three colors on the side of the shoe? They equal three levels of cushion!

The soles of the ONE Cushion shoes have built-in zones: a three-foam midsole, a decoupled outsole, and a stable lateral arch area.

  • The midsole has an ultra soft layer for shock attenuation, a responsive layer to help with propulsion forward, and a lightweight layer for foot guidance.
  • Stable and flat lateral arch area for maximum ground contact.
  • The outsole release zone helps with pronation control and stride integrity.
  • The high abrasion rubber heel with decoupled outsole durably isolates shock absorption at the heel strike!

Unsure about all this terminology? Check out this article about running shoe terms . It’s a very interesting read!

Isn’t the color awesome?! I am kinda in love with bright neon right now. I wore them on my first 6 mile run since the Boston Marathon and I felt like I was floating on AIR. These may be my favorite Reebok shoes! I like lighter shoes for my quick tempo or track workouts!  I have a high arch so I need a lot of support! I like that they are also light, which is great for my cross training as well. (You know like doing BOX JUMPS and BURPEES!)
