“A long marriage is two people trying to
dance a duet and two solos at the same time.” ~Anne Taylor Fleming
Today we celebrate 8 years of beautiful marriage! Of course no marriage is perfect and we learn something new about each other everyday. We have had our share of arguments, hours of laughter, tears and adventures! Most of all I am blessed to have a God fearing husband that wants nothing more than to love RJ and I more each day. I can’t wait to celebrate with him today!
“ Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, UncommonGoods is an privately-owned retailer that endeavors to feature unique designs and handcrafted gifts created in harmony with the environment and without harm to animals or people. We run all our operations out of the historic Brooklyn Army Terminal, including our warehouse where the lowest-paid seasonal worker starts at 50% above the minimum wage. We make it our mission to support and provide a platform for artists and designers; in fact, half of what we sell is made by hand. Most of the products we carry are created right here in the USA, and about one-third of our entire collection incorporates recycled and/or upcycled materials. At the core of our company is a great respect for the integrity of the creative individual and the belief that it is our responsibility to use our business to impact the world in a positive way.”Â
Here are a few of my favorites from UncommonGoods, I can’t tell you what I got the Hubby because that would ruin the surprise!

Ladies,
Hubs here. Bobbi has asked me to be a little more involved with her blog by having a post every blue moon. Now, my post won’t be anything fancy, healthy or cutesy. It will be more practical How-To’s, tips, things I have to say and random tidbits about guys. So without further ado…

Now… if your man is sporty and/or outdoorsy (like myself), there will be some ideas on here that will get you extra credit points, but let’s start off with the basics:
THE BASICS:
1) SOCKS:
If he is trying to get into cycling, running, basketball, auto repair, accounting, nursing, Marco Poloing… there is a sock for it. And a week later, go into his sock drawer and trash the 3 pairs of socks with holes in it. He won’t notice.
2) BOXERS/UNDERWEAR:
Guys will wear boxers with holes in it. Use #1 for reference.
3) SOAP:
Depending on the guy, you can get a funny gift like Soap-On-A-Rope or if you want to have your man smelling good, you can get him a year’s supply when you do the “Buy 3 Get 3 Free” at Bath & Body Works.
4) LOOFAH:
Again, guys tend not to get new things unless duct tape fails. Save him the public shame in buying a loofah at the grocery store and get him a nice one… Yearly!
5) COLOGNE:
Depending on the men, you might want to get some traditional cologne or try something new like using the Axe’s Body Spray.
6) GUM:
Who doesn’t like gum? A Mega Pack? Gum for Days!
7) CANDY:
Just know that it will be gone by December 26th.
8) DVD:
What is the “man movie” from 2013 that you know he will watch again and again and again… and ask for you to watch it with him? Was it The Wolverine? 2 Guns? 42? World War Z… Just kidding, don’t get World War Z no matter how much you like to look at Brad Pitt.
OK… those were some softball tosses. Here’s the next step…
THE BASICS PLUS:
9) THE POCKET REF (4th Ed):Â MUST HAVE!
The paperback version – It’s a man’s brain written shorthand with all of the needed guy information. You’ll thank me!
10) LOTTERY SCRATCHER TICKETS: (if your state/country allows it)
Not those cheap $1 ones. Get him a couple of $3 – $5 tickets… maybe a $10. I rather have a couple of higher stake ones than 10 of those $1 tickets.
11) KNIFE:
Be unique. Maybe this year it is a Swiss Army Knife to replace the one he didn’t know he had when going through the security line at the airport. Maybe it is a meat filleting knife. Or a Xacto Kit. Or the typical Exclusive Secret Agent Tactical Ninja Sword… you know, just in case. Change it up every year!
12) CIGAR:
If he’s the kind of guy that likes to smoke a cigar with the guys, get him a nice one… or two so he can share. *Note* Unless he has a humidor, wait until Christmas Eve or Christmas Eve’s Eve to get it. $10 – $15 each will do.
13) WHISKEY STONES:
No, these are not kidney stones from those long nights of drinking whiskey. They are stones that you chill and then put into drinks to cool down the drink without the melted ice water later. There are different forms of these. One Form. Another Form.
THE NEXT LEVEL:
Here are items that might be for the sporty/outdoorsy guy…
14) ZIPPO:
Because you never know when you need it.
15) SPORT TEAM MEMORABILIA:
A St. Louis Cardinals patch, stickers, license plate frame, bobbleheads, key chain… sure!
16) GLOVES:
This could be new Rawhide Leather Work Gloves or light Casual Gloves to out of the house with.
17) GOLF TEES:
Get the 3 1/4″ tees like these. Don’t get golf balls. Some men are particular, but if they aren’t particular… A cheap gift that I have purchased are slightly used bulk golf balls. Check out eBay for these things.
18) BEANIE:
It can be a workout beanie (or skullcap) or stylish one.
19) CHURCH KEY:
It’s just cool looking! HERE.
ODD-N-ENDS:
These aren’t for most guys, but maybe you want to get something random. Try these:
20)Â Farkas Eye Black
21)Â Chocolate Bacon Bar
22) A Fun Coffee Mug
23)Â Baseball Cap Water & Sweat Repellant
24)Â Stormproof Matches
25)Â Bacon Flavored Toothpicks
Hope this was useful for you ladies. Maybe I should make a list of things that guys should get women so you can send the link to your man. What do you think?
]]>I remember when we first got married I told Hubâ€
s that he had to still take me out on dates and WOO me! I WOO him too. I just love date nights and we have done them regularly since the day we met. I know the Holidays can get busy, but itâ€
s a great time to get romantic with your loved one!
Here is a list of some fun and cheap Holiday Date Night ideas:
1. Go to a local museum on one of their free nights and check out the Holiday decorations.
2. Make a pie together or even some festive sugar cookies.
3. Have a Ginger Bread House contest and winner gets a massage from the loser.
4. Jump in the car and turn on the local holiday station that plays nothing but holiday songs and check out the neighborhood lights.
5. Bundle up, grab a thermos and take a walk.
6. Head to the local coffee shop and play a game of scrabble or cards.
7. Curl up on the couch with a glass of hot cider, popcorn and your favorite Holiday movie.
8. Head up to the local mountains or somewhere with a beautiful view and try and draw your version of what you see.
9. Look at your local newspaper for free Christmas concert and dress up just for fun.
10. Put on your snow boots and go play in the snow. Snow ball fights are the best foreplay.
11. Go to the local library and find some of your favorite Holiday classics to read to one another.
12. Grab your camera and have a fun photo shoot in the woods!
Question:
What are some of your favorite things to do with your loved one during the Holiday season without breaking the bank?

Bring on 77 more!

Hubs here again. In need of that “last-minute” Father’s Day gift? Well, I have 7 Simple (but Manly) Father’s Day Gift Ideas… and if you have Amazon Prime, you’re in luck!

SIMPLE (BUT MANLY) THINGS:
1) THE POCKET REF (4th Ed): MUST HAVE!
The paperback version – It’s a man’s brain written shorthand with all of the needed guy information. You’ll thank me if you didn’t get this for him last Christmas.
2) NON-CONTACT INFRARED INTERNAL THERMOMETER w/ LASER SIGHT:
What to see how hot your engine is running? Want to see the internal temperature of the chicken on the grill? Want to see how cold your ice chest is? Want to see how cold the wife’s cold stare is? This bad boy will help with most of these things… BOOM! HERE! (Currently on sale from Amazon – Reg $90 / Sale $16 with 4.5 Stars from 50 Reviews)
3) IRON RINGS / MEAT TENDERIZER:
Now, some states might call these “Brass Knuckles” and outlaw them, but let’s call them Iron Rings, or better yet, a meat tenderizer! I’m sure there are varieties of THESE (with or without Skulls), but what man wouldn’t want to have this for ‘Show-and-Tell’ with the guys?
4) SPORT TEAM MEMORABILIA:
A St. Louis Cardinals license plate frame, garden gnome, yard flag, etc… Yes, please.
5) GOLF TEES / GOLF BALLS:
Get the 3 1/4″ tees like these. Don’t get golf balls if your men are particular on the brand, but if he is particular… A cheap gift that I have purchased are “slightly used bulk golf balls” on eBay. I got a grip of “slightly used” golf balls for a ridiculous price!

6) CHURCH KEY:
It’s just cool looking! Another manly ‘Show-and-Tell’ item! HERE.
7) DEHYDRATOR:
Some guys may want Beer or Cider Kits. Some guys might want to do something different, but don’t know what to do. Maybe his own line-up of Beef Jerky would be new to try. Start small with a SMALLER Dehydrator.
Hope this was useful for you ladies. Happy Father’s Day!
]]>We headed out on Friday and got to spend time with my brother who lives in Chandler. On Saturday we hit up the Dodgers vs. Padres game and had such a wonderful time.
Of course I enjoyed my first hot dog and Blue Moon of the season! (The only time I eat hot dogs is at a baseball game and they are always all beef.) I swear they just taste better at a ball game!
It was so great taking RJ to her first baseball game! She was such a trooper. The weather ended up being in the low 80â€
s (unlike some years when I am wishing I had on a swim suit). Hubby was truly surprised and had no idea that we were taking him. I think having RJ with us this year was the best gift of all!
Yep, she has Dodger pride written all over her face!
I also got in a 13 mile run that morning with my wonderful friend Heather, who so graiously came with us (she loves the Dodgers) and helped with RJ! It was a really fun run because I got to run 8 miles with my brother, 3.5 miles with Matt, and 2 miles with Heather! The weather was nice and the trail couldnâ€
t have been more perfect! I love running in Arizona, I almost feel like I can breathe better.
After we went on our run I loaded up on breakfast at a place called The Good Egg. I had egg whites, veggies, potatoes and salsa (not pictured). I knew we would have a pretty heavy day of eats so I stuck to a clean plate!
After the game we went to downtown Phoenix and tried out the Taco Guru. Honestly this place was not my favorite. They had a great atmosphere, wonderful margaritas, but the tacos and guacamole were nothing to rave about. I think I need to go back again, as it’s a new restaurant and is still working out some of the kinks. I just have had some pretty amazing tacos lately so I had high expectations.
Hello yummy pineapple margarita!
Sunday we said our farewells and hit the road to home. On the way home we stopped by the “Really Good†Beef Jerky store in Blythe to see what the fuss was all about. It was actually very good and now hubby wants to start making his own. He has been inspired!
Because I am crazy and all, as soon as we pulled into the driveway I took off for a 30 mile bike ride with my running buddy Susie to get my legs moving after sitting for 5 hours! We couldnâ€
t believe how good it felt to get on our bikes again. So thankful for Daylight Savings Time and the ability to ride a bit later now.
At the end of our ride we swung by Hanger 24, a local brewery that was having live music and food. It was a little pre-St.Pattyâ€
s Day celebration!
We celebrated with a little Orange Wheat and then called it a night!
On Monday for Hubbyâ€
s actual birthday (yep he was born on St.Pattyâ€
s day) he wanted something at home and low key. After the busy weekend we had, that sounded perfect to me! I surprised him a little and had the back patio all decked out with party decorations and made delicious carne asada salads!
RJ was the BEST decoration. ![]()
Really RJ? Could you be any more precious?!
We finished the evening with a little funfetti cake (Hubbyâ€
s fave) and watch some Jim Gaffagon on the patio with friends. ‘Twas the perfect birthday celebration!
So blessed to celebrate another wonderful birthday with my best friend and soul mate! He truly is my better half and I am so glad God brought him into this world.

Questions: How did you celebrate St.Pattyâ€
s Day? Did you wear green?
s post!
I think the things that I loved most about the Expo was the “newbie†floor. This was the area for folks that were exhibiting for the very first time. There were so many stories to be told and dreams to be shared! I loved how some of them starting baking in their very own kitchens. Then, before they knew it not only family and friends were enjoying their products but neighbors and friends of friends! They never dreamed that they would see their products on a shelf of Whole Foods. One of the things that I love best about being a blogger is networking with so many different brands and connecting with some pretty talented people. I could list them all of for ya, but honestly I am pretty sure that it would take up several pages!!!
Not only did I walk about 5 miles all over the Expo, I did my first 18 mile run for my Boston Marathon training Saturday morning! It actually was my best long run in a long time! I think starting at 5am and the weather being absolutely perfect really helped. I had two Guâ€
s one at mile 8 and another at mile 12. I really enjoyed every minute of the run. (That has not happened in a while.)
Oh and guess who turned 6 months this weekend? CRAZY right?!
I also decided to do 40 days of yoga for Lent this year. Instead of giving something up, I decided to add something. I decided to use this time of Lent as refreshment for my soul. Speaking of Refreshment, you still have time to sign up for the Refresh Summit!
I managed to get dressed this weekend ![]()
I had to wear my polka dots so I could match this cutie pie. She pulls them off a lot better than I do!
We tried the Flame Broiler for the first time this weekend, it was a lot like Waba Grill. I liked that the meat tasted fresh and that you could order extra veggies or BROWN rice!
To celebrate the warm weekend we drove out to Pinkberry! Seriously, it’s my all time favorite treat. I know not everyone is a fan, but for some reason when I crave something sweet Pinkberry always hits the spot!
For Hubby, a Reeseâ€
s the size of RJ hits his sweet tooth.
So I said what the heck itâ€
s your birthday month, go for it!
We walked around the mall a bit and then headed to the park!
We took our shoes off, soaked up the sun and had some appetizers.
Then, we captured some pretty sweet moments of this beauty.
I mean really, could this little girl be any cuter?! I think not!
We were pleasantly surprised to get a spontaneous date night! Once a week and going strong.
So we capped off the weekend with some of Darbyâ€
s beef sliders and a glass of wine!
Such a fun and beautiful weekend! So thankful for the perfect weather and some memories made while soaking up my favorites.
