s IDEA World Fitness Convention might have been the best fitness conferences I have ever attended EVER (minus Refresh Summit, of course).
In case you donâ€
t know what the Idea Convention is, itâ€
s a conference for fitness instructors to take fitness classes and listen to incredible lectures for 4 solid days! You can try everything from zumba, body pump and spin and/or get certified. This year it was in Anaheim, California. Practically in my backyard!
![]()
I came home feeling more pumped to chase my dreams and step out of my comfort zone, more than EVER!
It was 4 fun-filled, packed days and instead of giving you the break down minute-by-minute, I thought I would break it down to the Top 10 things I took away.
#1 // I LOVE SPIN AND I WILL GET CERTIFIED!
![]()
I mean, I knew I loved spin before I even went to the convention. I took two completely different spin classes on Saturday that rocked my world.
The first one was on a spin bike that actually MOVED with you! Talk about full body workout. You had to really use your core and move with the bike. I am not sure any of these gyms exist anywhere near me, but man was I sore! I also took a Schwinn GIRL POWER spin class. That was my favorite class of the whole weekend by far.
The lead trainers gave us tips about what we should say when we are training ladies and even how our hormonal cycles really play a huge part on our performance. After their chat, they led the best spin class I have ever taken in my life! They played all kinds of fun WOMEN songs and at the end, they had everyone in tears. It was powerful. I can’t wait to go get my certification!
#2 // I WANT TO BLOG MORE ABOUT WORKOUTS AND RECIPES
I absolutely love blogging and I know all of you amazing dedicated readers could care less what I blog about as long as I am just being me and I donâ€
t plan on changing that. However, I am really passionate about giving you all workout ideas and clean eating recipes, so I need to make sure I keep that up.
The first part of IDEA was BLOGFEST, which was a two day conference for bloggers to attend and I attended some of the workshops and really enjoyed them. Every time I get surrounded by fellow bloggers, I get so inspired and motivated to continue to do what I love! I also love hanging out with BLENDS (blogger friends), they just get you!

#3 // TODD DURKIN IS AMAZING!
![]()
(Cassie and Todd)
I was so honored to have the opportunity to not only go to Todd Durkinâ€
s Bootcamp workshop, but thanks to Propel, I got the opportunity to sit and chat with him for almost two hours after his bootcamp.
His bootcamp was amazing! We did some body weight stuff with a DJ playing some pretty amazing beats and then we broke up to pairs and groups to do some really fun circuits that I canâ€
t wait to try in some of my classes. My favorite one, was when he had us shadow each other. One person was the leader and the other had to follow everything they were doing for 30 seconds and then switch. Itâ€
s a lot harder than it sounds!
![]()
I didnâ€
t know too much about Todd’s story until about a week before the event. I started asking him questions about where he has come from and was really intrigued by his answers!
Todd started as a teacher, just like me, then decided to open up a gym in San Diego called Fitness Quest 10. He started penniless and in two months, his gym started to take off! He happened to be in the right place at the right time when he was asked to train some professional NFL players and from there his business just took off!
Todd is a man of great faith and being able to hear his story truly inspired me to stop being fearful of things that I know God is calling me to step out and do! I couldnâ€
t have been paired up with a better trainer to interview. He isnâ€
t a professional motivational speaker for no reason! He even invited me to come out to his gym and try a class… OH YES!
#4 // BOOT-CAMP IS FUN
![]()
IÂ took a few boot-camp classes, the XTC-Extreme Training Camp led by JG, was so fun! I made sure to take lots of notes so that I can add a few of the moves to my classes.
He broke us up into nine groups and there were a total of nine stations. We were at each station for one minute with 30 second break to get to the next station. We did the entire circuit about 2.5 times and I burned over 350 calories! There was everything from PLYO PUSHUPS to Plank Pass Throughs.
#5 // OPENING CEREMONY

The opening ceremony was so inspiring. They gave awards to the Fitness Instructor of the Year, Personal Trainer of the Year and so much more. This year’s winner of the Jack LaLanne Fitness award was Diana Nyad, the amazing women swimmer who at the age of 62 years old swam 103 miles from Cuba to Florida.
Her speech was phenomenal! She had all of us sitting with our ears glued to every word she said! I was so encouraged to never give up on my dreams, I am not too young! She has a documentary and now I must see it!
#6 // THERE ARE FITNESS BRANDS THAT JUST GET ITÂ
I found some of the cutest little pieces at the IDEA EXPO! Here are two of my favorites. These cute bracelets from Momentum Jewlery that have some awesome life motto’s and you can have your own personalized.
How cute are these Fivesse bags? They are gym bags that are not only fashionable, but super functional! One of these will be on my Christmas wish list for sure!
![]()
#7 // BEST EXPO EVER!
I wish I could have taken more photos at the EXPO, but I was too busy meeting all kinds of amazing fitness folks! The expo had all the latest and greatest fitness classes, equipment, fuel and so much more!
I love going to these things because I get to see faces ‘behind the brands.’ It always intrigues me to hear where they all started and what their mission is.
![]()
#8 // PIYO WAS MADE FOR ME!Â
I have so been wanted to try PIYO for quite some time now and I had the amazing opportunity to not only take a class, but take a class with the DIVA Chalene Johnson!!!
She is the creator of PiYo and just like the name say’s it’s a mix of pilates and yoga. It was created for runners, cyclists, and all athletes that don’t get in their stretching! HELLO ME! I hope that they have a class at my gym soon!
#9 // MIXERS ARE MY ‘THANG’
We had a happy hour on the first night that we arrived at BLOGFEST and it was a lot of fun!
Subway provided some sandwiches and refreshments were provided as well. I wasn’t so much into the food as I was into mingling it up with JARED from Subway and all my BLENDS!
It was so great seeing a lot of the bloggers that I met at Fitbloggin’ two years ago! Casey, Monica, Heather, Katie, Courtney, Julie, and Gina are such a fun group of ladies! I was not as good at taking pictures this time around (Gazelle, I wish we would have got a pic!) as I was at past conferences because I was too busy catching up and enjoying the moment
![]()
#10 // I GOT TO MEET JILLIAN MICHAEL’S!Â
![]()
I think I have done just about everyone of Jillian Michael’s videos and I was so excited that she was the keynote speaker at BLOGFEST!
She addressed some issues she came across as a trainer on The Biggest Loser and gave us amazing tips about how to be good trainer! I loved her passion behind all that she does and she is the queen of being REAL! I mean, we had an earthquake in the middle of the session and she was about to throw herself under a table, it was the best!!!
I loved this quote from her, “To excel in your business, you have to have flexibility, have an open mind and think about the possibilities that could follow, good or bad!”
I also loved that she said, “Be OK with FAILING!”Â
What an amazing four days! I was so blessed to be able to experience! I can’t wait to apply all that I learned!!!
Question: Have you ever heard of the IDEA World Fitness Convention?
]]>Last week we spent a week up at Forest Home Family Camp. It was an incredible week. It was a life-changing week. I stepped away from social media as much as I could and truly unplugged for 5 solid days. This was our 5th year of Family Camp and it was the most special one thus far, because we got to share it as a family of three. We also spend the Fourth of July there, which was perfect!
I could go on and on about what we did at Family Camp and what God taught me. Itâ€
s fun what God teaches you when you actually sit still for more than two seconds and have some quiet space to listen. It was in that quiet space that I truly, madly, and deeply became ready to ABIDE more than ever in Godâ€
s truth and grace. Here are the top 10 highlights from our week:
10. Inspiration Point Breakfast
Itâ€
s about a two-mile hike up to the most beautiful hilltop, where guests get to enjoy the freshest and fluffiest pancakes and bacon, while drinking a cup of Joe with a view.
9. Main Speaker Albert Tate
It was such a blessing having our old pastor as the main speaker for the week. I have been going through the Abide journal by Naptime Diaries, and the entire week of messages was about John 15:5 and abiding in the Lord. It couldnâ€
t have been a sweeter time of learning.
8. Root Beer Freezes and Shaved Ice
Who knew that I would fall back in love with such fun camp treats?! I think I had a Shaved Ice everyday and at least two Root Beer Freezes from the Clubhouse. When at camp, you have to just enjoy!
7. Morning Adult Free Time
Every morning after breakfast we would drop off RJ in her classroom while we went to our morning session. We always had about 2 hours after the session to do whatever we wanted. I chose to spend some deep time in Godâ€
s word and read in the hammock. Hubby still had to work a bit, so this time was when he got his work done.
6. The Pool
I swear RJ is a fish! She loves the pool. Forest Home just installed a new pool and a splash pad that one day we will all enjoy.

5. Adult Dinners
We had two “fancier†dinner nights, where we got to eat KID FREE! They had an early dinner for kids (obviously RJ didnâ€
t go) and then our CCA (see #2) came so we could enjoy an amazing Farm-to-Table dinner! Both nights all the food was delish! We even had lavender ice-cream one night for dessert!
4. Nap-time
I donâ€
t know what it was about the mountains, but RJ slept so hard! She took two solid naps everyday. I even snuck in a nap or two (first time ever) and they were glorious.
3. CrossFit
I was stoked that they offered two days of CrossFit and two days of lap swim. The CrossFit workouts were made up of mostly tabata and then a deck card workout. There wasn’t anything too intense, but so great to work out with new friends and with such an amazing back drop!
2. Date Nights every Night!
The one thing that sets Forest Home apart from all other family camps is the Child Care Assistants that are offered for free! Every night after dinner our CCA would come over, tuck RJ into bed, and stay with her till 11pm, while we went to our evening session and then enjoyed some amazing one-on-one time! The Hubby and I have not been away from RJ together on a trip yet, so this was the perfect compromise. We played cards, enjoyed life dreams over coffee, shared a shake in the clubhouse, star-gazed, and just relaxed!
1. Quality Time with these Two
Although Matt had to work, it was a lot of fun not having to clean up after meals, worry about what to cook for dinner, being caught up with watching TV, or stuck on our computers. Just to look each other in the eyes and worship together for an entire week was such a blessing.
I am so happy that Hubby works here year-round so we can visit often and still experience a bit of family camp every week. ![]()
I have so many friends that are expecting, so I just knew I had to do a Newborn Must Haveâ€
s post as well as a little Parent Must Haveâ€
s through two months!
With an adoption, itâ€
s all kinda crazy as we did not even know if we would get a newborn or a 2-year-old, but thanks to all our amazing friends, we were so blessed with almost everything we needed for the first couple months. I will say this, the first month you need so little! You could survive with diapers, blankets and milk! Thanks to modern technology there are all kinds of fun things for our newborns.
Car Seat: This was our first purchase because we had to bring RJ home in one! We went with the Graco SnugRide® Click Connectâ„¢ 35 Infant Car Seat – Tidalwave. So far it has done itâ€
s job and is very easy to use. The only thing is… RJ is not a fan of being in a car seat, but she is getting better.
Clothes: Onesies and Gowns are the most essential, in my opinion, and I also love our sleep sacks!
Glider: We got ours on Craigslist for $25 and it has been one of the best purchases ever! We spend a lot of time in the Glider feeding RJ and reading her books. This photo was taken right before we got Rylee so now the bookshelf is packed with amazing books from friends and family.
Wrap/Carrier – Whether itâ€
s the Boba, Ergo, Baby Kâ€
Tan (which I am wearing here) or a homemade sling… baby wearing is a must! I know not every baby loves it, but I am not sure we could have lived without it! The Ergo Baby is great when we are out and about and the Baby Kâ€
Tan is nice while I am trying to get things done around the house. The only thing is, I can only wear the Kâ€
Tan (and not hubby) as itâ€
s not one size fits all.
The Ergo Baby Hubby can wear it as it adjusts. I also love that she will grow with it and I will be able to wear her on my back as she getâ€
s older. If you can only get one, get the Ergo!
Swaddles: Our favorite are the Summer Infant SwaddleMe blankets (takes the guessing out) and Aden & Anais Muslin Swaddles. Swaddling is so soothing for babies and it really helps them to sleep better as they wonâ€
t be jolting themselves awake.
Because RJ was born in the Fall, the HALO SleepSack Swaddle Microfleece – (Newborn) has been so great as a blanket and swaddle!
Professional Newborn Photos: SPEND the money! They will be worth every penny!
Baby Loungers: Oh how I love her Baby Lounger! It is so nice to be able to pick up and move room to room as I shower, tackle clients and much more! We have a swing from a friend, a Fisher Price Baby Bouncer and the Boppy Lounger.
Watch out because your puppy might like the Boppy a little too much.
Bassinet: A friend also let us barrow her Fisher Price Rock ‘nâ€
Play Sleeper until RJ went in her crib. Itâ€
s better than any bassinet! I loved that it had an incline for her and it rocked. Itâ€
s collapsible as well, although we kept it out all the time. It would be great for travel though!
Coffee: I also suggest large cups for coffee because there wonâ€
t be much sleep going on ![]()
Pacifiers: We went through quite a few different ones, until we found out that RJ loved The First Years 2 Pack GumDrop Newborn Pacifier, I donâ€
t know what it is, but she took to and it really soothes her! Oh and the mittens, well ya they donâ€
t last very long they never stayed on!
Bottle Warmer: Because we were not breast-feeding and RJ would be relying sole on formula we got a bottle warmer as a gift. Itâ€
s super easy to use and has been so helpful in the middle of the night when you donâ€
t even want to think about anything! We also really like the Avent bottles for feeding.
For you parents MUFFINS they are such a great easy breakfast and snack! I suggest making a couple batches and freeze them before baby comes! You need your fuel.
Books: I only read one and that is all I plan to read. What to Expect the First Year and I also really like the podcast Pregtastic!
Green MONSTERS: Donâ€
t forget to eat MOMS! Drink your green monster everyday and at least you will know you got in some veggies for the day ![]()
Bob Revolution Stroller: Ugh, LOOOOOVE this stroller! Seriously, this is the lightest and best stroller, I JUST GOT IT after two months of struggling with the Greco Jogging stroller (long story). There is a car seat adapter as well that we had to purchase. It’s so easy to maneuver around in. I can’t wait to take it out on jogs too. I was walking with RJ at 2 weeks… you got to get out people!
DOWN TIME! Mammas and Dads… soak up those sweet babies. If that means you donâ€
t leave the couch for a couple of days, who cares! Honestly that was the best part of the newborn stage. I loved people coming to us and being a homebody for a bit.
ENJOY EVERY LITTLE MINUTE!
Baby Monitor and Sound Machine: We love our Belkin baby monitor! We can watch her on our iPhones, iPad and even on our computers. It makes it so convenient that we can watch her when we are not home… however… The actual app itself is horrible. Make it better guys!
RJ also has her sound machine which plays a heartbeat, ocean waves and even what it would sound like in her mommy’s tummy. I think the sound really helps her sleep better.
Well these are the essentials, but I have a whole other post on things that we just love having!
I know I owe you some family update post and a tour of RJâ€
s room… promise they are coming!
Question:
Moms, Dads… what did I forget?
I love riding my bike, even if I only get out a couple of days a week. Itâ€
s always a lot more freeing and makes me feel like a kid again! I encourage you all to look into cycling. It may be technical, but donâ€
t be intimidated! Anyone can do it and you will LOVE it!
1. Safety: Honestly, I cannot stress this enough! Always wear a helmet. I know you may just be riding around the corner and donâ€
t think you need a helmet, but YOU NEVER KNOW!
Always be super aware of your surroundings especially if you are on a busy road. Ride as far to the right on the road as possible. Do not ride on the sidewalks and use your hand turn signals. If you are riding in a line and you are in the front, make sure you point down at objects that are in the road so that those following you can do the same for people behind them.
I personally do not ride alone because I never know what might happen, but if I do I make sure to always ride with my phone just in case.
2. Hydration: Proper hydration is critical for your safety and success. Poor hydration will cause you to cramp up and lessen your performance. I always carry two water bottles on my bike (One filled with Fitmixer electrolytes and the other with water). The last thing you want to do is run out of water!
3. Go Clipless:Â I know wearing clips are SCARY! Clipless pedals (also known as Clip-In or Step-In) are a two-part system for your bike. Part one is a small pedal with a locking mechanism and part two is a cleat that attaches to your bike shoe. The shoes clip into the pedals, giving you a very solid connection to your bike. Yes, clip in. So, why are they called clipless? Well, because before these existed, there were pedals with toe clips. Toe clips are the cages that go on a regular platform pedal that help keep your foot in place. They don’t clip onto your pedals and they don’t clip onto your foot, so it’s really a dumb name for them, but because they already existed, these newer pedals which actually do clip in had to pick another name. For some reason, they chose ‘clipless’. Either way, they will help you ride more efficiently! You will use a more full range of motion by pushing and pulling with your hamstrings and quads! Believe me, once you do it, you will wonder why you waited so LONG!
4. Changing a Tire: If you havenâ€
t learned then you need to! Practice at home. A lot of local bike shops hold workshops that help you change tires and show you how to care for your bike.
5. Find a group: It is so much fun to ride with others! Plus, in case something happens or you get lost, you are in it together. Ask your local bike stores about riding groups and you can also check out MEET UP. It helps connect you with locals that ride.
6. Use Your Core – Not Your Arms: One of the best pieces of advice I ever got from someone. You should not put all your weight on your handle bars and on to your shoulders. Use your core to hold yourself up. It will make a world of a difference and help from having your hands go numb!
7. Get Fitted: It is very important that you get your bike fitted for your height. You donâ€
t want to hurt your back or legs because itâ€
s too high or too low. Once your bike is fitted to you, you will ride more easily and efficiently.
8. Sign Up for a Race: Get motivated! Having a goal in mind will help keep you on that bike more days than not. Itâ€
s fun to train for something and then finish feeling accomplished!
![]()
9. Take Fuel: For some reason I am always hungrier on the bike than I am running. Probably because I am usually on my bike a lot longer than I when I run. I like to carry Shot Blocks, Vega bars, homemade bars and Zingers. There are so many choices out there, you may have to test out a few (or make your own) before you know what gives you sustained energy and what doesn’t upset your stomach.
10. Gear: You will want to wear a jersey that has pockets in the back for easy access to fuel or carry other needed items. I also highly recommend bike shorts! The padding will help your saddle soreness… promise it getâ€
s better! Cycling gloves are essential as well as they will help keep your palms cushioned through your ride as well as protect your hands in case you fall. Lastly, I really suggest wearing proper sunglasses for protection from the sun as well as BUGS. You would be surprised how many times my glasses have saved me from getting a bug in my eye.
More tips to come… and maybe even a fun video ![]()

Question: What are your favorite photo editing apps?
]]>1. The LiveStrong App: Price: $2.99:
This is a great app to help someone who is trying to get motivated and needs help tracking calories. The Calorie Tracker can help you reach your diet, weight loss and fitness goals by tracking your daily calories and exercise. Lose weight easily by setting your weight management goals and track your calories and progress with our comprehensive online food journal containing over 625,000 food and fitness items. While it would be nice if food and meal macronutrient amounts were given, the large database and ease of use make this app standout in the calorie-tracking category.
2. Nike + GPS: Price: $2.99
The app is pretty simple. It uses the GPS in your iPhone to track your route. It starts and stops when you tell it to, taking in the time, and can then calculate, from the stats in your Nike+ account, how many calories you’ve used along the way. I love that you can sync it to your iTunes as well as get cheers from your friends on Facebook while you RUN! It also keeps track of how many miles you have run.

3. Nike Training App: Price: Free!
This is one of my favorite apps to use when I need a good workout and don’t want to have to think of it myself.

The app has 30-minute workouts, for all skill levels, and has broken them down into high intensity intervals for you with not only really clear photos and instructions how to do various moves, but also video of those moves being done. This was exciting for me as I want to get a quick reference sometimes when Iâ€
m in the gym about form or posture on a particular lift.
Pick a routine, set it to music that you choose, and then the audio prompts will tell you when to switch from one to another.
4. Tabata Timer: Price: Free!
It’s perfect when I do my tabata workouts. Tracks the 8 circuits with 20 active and 10 second rest. Love it!
5. AB Workouts: Price Free!
I don’t use this app a whole lot any more, but if you’re looking for some simple ab workouts to do at home this one has some great one’s along with explanations.
6. Boxer Timer: Price: 1.99
I use this app on a daily basis with all my clients. You can set the number of rounds, the prep length, round length and rest. You can also save timers which is a great feature so you don’t have to change it every time.

7. Card Workout: Price: Free
It gives you a deck of cards that give you lots of different workouts! It makes it so you can take your workout anywhere!

8. My Fitness Pal: Price: FREE!
Easy tool for weightloss. Really nice if you also have to barcode scanner downloaded to access some food info. Only downside is having to go back… sometimes you have to go back through a lot to get somewhere but with patience you will do fine and the weight will drop off! It’s got a nice tracking system that not only shows you calories, but also shows you fats, carbs and proteins.
So there you have it, some of my favorite fitness apps!!!
