Tools For a Happy Marriage

Well hello everyone!!

It has been an amazing weekend and I am sad that it has come to an end. The Couples Retreat that Hubby and I went to was at my work. I love that we work together at a CAMP!!!  This weekend the mountains were absolutely breathtaking and covered in beautiful layers of snow.

We were blessed to hear Curt and Rhonda Hamner speak. Curt & Rhonda Hamner,  are a husband and wife team that have developed a Bed and Breakfast with a Purpose Retreat. Their vision is to bring together effective marriage communication tools and genuine romance. Hubby and I had an amazing time together and we learned so much.

I think that investing in your marriage is one of the best things you can do as a couple and Hubby and I take that very seriously. That is why we go on Date Night’s regularly and take spontaneous day trips together. We also make sure that we are constantly encouraging one another and making sure that we make the other feel LOVED!

There were so many wonderful tools that we learned this weekend about communication in marriage and I would like to share one of them with you all. It’s call the XYZ factor. It’s sounds super corny but I think that it can help anyone in any relationship.

X= What Happen?
Y= What was the event?
Z=
How did that make you feel?

So for example I would say to Hubby:

“Matt when you don’t tell me” = X
“that I need to make dinner for your friends” =Y
“it makes me feel overwhelmed and frustrated” =Z

This helps me to express to Hubby in a KIND way with an appropriate tone how I am feeling. I know this sounds super plastic and may not be realistic for you, but I know that this is something that I would love to get better at. I am terrible at communicating how I feel and  I will use anything to help me get better.

On another note, I ATE WAY TOO much at the conference and enjoyed every bite!! I did feel really sluggish though and can not wait to get back to eating clean. I also didn’t get my long run in with Angie, because we had an early start at the retreat this morning. I plan on running at least 8 miles in the morning and just sticking to the rest of my marathon training for the week.

The plans for the rest of the evening

  • unpack
  • put away clothes
  • prep for the week
  • work on a blog project 🙂

Hope you all had a WONDERFUL weekend!!!!

Question: Are there tools that you use in your marriage that have really helped you be a better communicator???
